  1. 1. New Tools for Analysis of Wood and Pulp Components - Application of MALDI-TOF Mass Spectroscopy and Capillary Zone Electrophoresis

    Author : Anna Jacobs; KTH; []
    Keywords : Capillary zone electrophoresis; carbohydrate composition; degree of acetylation; degree of polymerization; enzymatic hydrolysis; hardwood; hemicellulose; hexenuronic acid; lignin; MALDI-TOF mass spectroscopy; molar mass; molar mass distribution; olig;

    Abstract : In the present thesis, capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE),matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight massspectroscopy (MALDI-MS) and size-exclusion chromatography incombination with off-line MALDI-MS (SEC/MALDI-MS) have beenapplied successfully to the analysis of wood and pulpcomponents.The carbohydrate compositions of pulp and holocellulosesamples, as well as of isolated hemicellulose preparations,were determined employing enzymatic hydrolysis and subsequentanalysis of the saccharides released by CZE. Author : Marie Svensson; Ann-Chrisitne Albertsson; Petra Mishnick; Ulf Gedde; KTH; []
    Keywords : wood hydrolysate; hemicellulose; microsphere; hydrogel;

    Abstract : Polysaccharides have been used for many years in a variety of products such as food, fuel supply and industrial products. During recent years there has been an increasing interest in a group of polysaccharides, hemicelluloses, due to their highly availability, renewability and potentially low price. READ MORE

  5. 5. Wood hydrolysate Barriers

    Author : Anas Ibn Yaich; Ulrica Edlund; Ann-Christine Albertsson; Margaretha. Söderqvist-Lindblad; Inger Odnevall-Wallinder; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wood hydrolysate; xylan; hemicellulose; layered silicates; oxygen barrier; packaging; film; coaing; birch.;

    Abstract : Wood hemicellulose is an abundant but fairly unexploited renewable feedstock. Recent studies have shown that hemicelluloses have a large potential for use in the food packaging industry as a sustainable alternative to the conventional oxygen-barrier materials used today. READ MORE
