1. Deterministic Silicon Pillar Assemblies and their Photonic Applications
Abstract : It is of paramount importance to our society that the environment, life style, science and amusement flourish together in a balanced way. Some trends in this direction are the increased utilization of renewable energy, like solar photovoltaics; better health care products, for example advanced biosensors; high definition TV or high resolution cameras; and novel scientific tools for better understanding of scientific observations. 2. Partial Balayage and Related Concepts in Potential Theory
Abstract : This thesis consists of three papers, all treating various aspects of the operation partial balayage from potential theory. The first paper concerns the equilibrium measure in the setting of two dimensional weighted potential theory, an important measure arising in various mathematical areas, e.g. READ MORE

3. Study of Induction Machines with Rotating Power Electronic Converter
Abstract : This thesis investigates a novel induction machine topology that uses a rotating power electronic converter. Steady-state and dynamic performance of the topology is studied to understand its operational principle. Furthermore the potential of improving its efficiency and power factor is investigated. 4. Constructing and Commissioning HELIOS – A High Harmonic Generation Source for Pump-Probe Measurements with sub 50 fs Temporal Resolution : The Development of Experimental Equipment for Extreme Ultraviolet Spectroscopy
Abstract : This thesis presents HELIOS, an in-house laboratory for time-resolved pump-probe spectroscopy with extreme-ultraviolet (XUV) probe radiation. A wide span of pump wavelengths can be generated using commercial laser equipment while XUV probe radiation is generated via a high harmonic generation process in a noble gas delivering probe photons with energies between 20 eV and 72 eV. 5. Attosecond interferometry: techniques and spectroscopy
Abstract : The interaction between an intense laser pulse and a gas medium leads to the emission of coherent bursts of light in the extreme ultraviolet range. This process, known as high-order harmonic generation, has today, almost three decades after its discovery, developed into a reliable source of extremely short (on the order of 100 as) pulses of electromagnetic radiation, with a wide range of applications in the atomic, molecular and optical sciences.
