  1. 21. On the Design of Electrical Architectures for Safety-Critical Automotive Systems

    Author : Per Johannessen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; distributed systems; system-safety; model-based development; hazard analysis; dependable systems; drive-by-wire; electrical architecture; time-triggered communication;

    Abstract : Increasing demands in the automotive industry in areas such as safety, driving pleasure and environmental care require new complex functionality to be implemented in cars. This evolution will to a large extent depend on the introduction of drive-by-wire systems in cars. READ MORE

  2. 22. Ensuring the intended volume is given the intended absorbed dose in radiotherapy: Managing geometric variations and treatment hazards

    Author : Ola Holmberg; Malmö Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; medical instrumentation; tomography; radiology; Clinical physics; safety; risk; hazard; organ motion; set-up; margins; volume definition; radiotherapy; accuracy; Klinisk fysiologi; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering; Radiopharmaceutical technology; Radiofarmaceutisk teknik;

    Abstract : Methods for ensuring that the intended volume receives the intended absorbed dose in radiotherapy have been investigated. In order to optimise radiation treatment of cancer, geometric variations in the treatment chain need to be controlled. Furthermore, hazards potentially leading to unintended irradiation need to be controlled. READ MORE

  3. 23. Bias-adjusted analysis of global natural disaster records and an assessment of seismic hazard in Sweden

    Author : Niranjan Joshi; Roland Roberts; Ari Tryggvason; Björn Lund; Kuvvet Atakan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Power-law; Natural-disasters; Seismic-hazard assessment.;

    Abstract : Natural disasters pose significant challenges today and demand efficient allocation of society’s limited resources for disaster risk reduction. This relies on analysis of natural disaster records, which are prone to (reporting) biases that can affect the inferences drawn from their analysis. READ MORE

  4. 24. Earthquake Sources and Hazard in northern Central America

    Author : Diego José Cáceres Calix; Ota Kulhánek; Vladimir Schenk; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Geophysics; Northern Central America; Probabilistic Seismic Hazard; Body waveform modeling; Seismic Active Deformation; Earthquake Triggering; Geofysik; Geophysics; Geofysik;

    Abstract : Northern Central America is a tectonically complex zone defined by its borders with Cocos and North America plates. The Middle America subduction zone and the strike-slip motion along the North America-Caribbean plate boundary, in that order, control most of its deformation. READ MORE

  5. 25. Analysis of PAHs and their transformations products in contaminated soil and remedial processes

    Author : Staffan Lundstedt; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental chemistry; polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; PAHs; degredation; transformation; formation; accumulation; oxidation products; metabolites; oxogenated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; oxy-PAHs; soil; gasworks; remediation; bioremediation; bioslurry; wood-rotting fungi; Fenton´s reagent; avaliability; bioavaliability; chemical analysis; extraction; pressurized liquid extraction; PLE; accelerated solvent extraction; ASE; Miljökemi; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry;

    Abstract : Soil that is heavily contaminated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) is often found at the sites of former gasworks and wood-impregnation plants. Since PAHs are toxic these sites represent a hazard to human health and the environment, and therefore they need to be treated, preferably by a method that destroys the contaminants, and thus eliminates the problem permanently.
