  1. 1. Biomechanical assessment of head and neck movements in neck pain using 3D movement analysis

    Author : Helena Grip; Gertjan Ettema; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : movement analysis; kinematics; helical axis; neck pain; whiplash; cervical spine; pattern classification; motor control; head-eye co-ordination; head movement; biomedicinsk strålningsvetenskap; Biomedical Radiation Science;

    Abstract : Three-dimensional movement analysis was used to evaluate head and neck movement in patients with neck pain and matched controls. The aims were to further develop biomechanical models of head and neck kinematics, to investigate differences between subjects with non-specific neck pain and whiplash associated disorders (WAD), and to evaluate the potential of objective movement analysis as a decision support during diagnosis and follow-up of patients with neck pain. 2. 2. Neck function in rhythmic jaw activities

    Author : Birgitta Häggman-Henrikson; Antoon DeLaat; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : chewing; head; human; jaw; mandible; motor control; movement; neck; temporomandibular disorders; whiplash injury; odontologi; Odontology;

    Abstract : Previous studies in animals and humans show anatomic and physiological connections between the trigeminal and cervical regions. This investigation tested the hypothesis of a functional integration between the human jaw and neck motor systems in rhythmic jaw activities. READ MORE

  3. 3. Sensorimotor behavior in children born preterm and adolescents with Cerebral Palsy : Side preference, movement organization, and training

    Author : Anna-Maria Johansson; Louise Rönnqvist; Erik Domellöf; Janette Atkinson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; prematurity; preterm; children; cerebral palsy; movement organization; movement performance; goal-directed; laterality; handedness; intelligence; cognition; synchronized metronome training; intervention; Psychology; psykologi;

    Abstract : Preterm birth (< 37 complete gestation weeks, GWs) is the single most prominent risk factor for the development of cerebral palsy (CP). This is due to the immature physiological state of the preterm born infant which increases the risk of brain lesions. READ MORE

  4. 4. Head Movement Correlates to Focus Assignment in Swedish

    Author : Sonia Sangari; Bertil Lydberg; Lars Ahrenberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Speech communication normally involves not only speech but also face and head movements. In the present investigation, the correlation between head movement and focus assignment is studied, both in the laboratory and in spontaneous speech, with the aim of finding out what these head movements look like in detail. 5. 5. Development of functional asymmetries in young infants : A sensory-motor approach

    Author : Erik Domellöf; Louise Rönnqvist; Jacqueline Fagard; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Laterality; development; handedness; human infant; stepping response; placing response; head turning; arm movement; reaching; kinematic parameters; intralimb coordination; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Abstract : Human functional laterality, typically involving a right-sided preference in most sensory-motor activities, is still a poorly understood issue. This is perhaps particularly true in terms of what underlying mechanisms that may govern lateral biases, as well as the developmental origins and course of events. READ MORE
