1. Dietary Fatty Acids and Inflammation : Observational and Interventional Studies
Abstract : Dietary fat quality influences the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. A low-grade inflammation is suggested to contribute to the disease development, often accompanied by obesity. Whereas n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) have been considered anti-inflammatory, n-6 PUFA have been proposed to act pro-inflammatory. READ MORE

2. Berries in Prevention of Metabolic Disease – focus on obesity, diabetes and gut microbiota
Abstract : The increasing prevalence of obesity is a worldwide health problem closely linked to diet and lifestyle factors. Obesity is associated with increased risk of several metabolic disorders including insulin resistance, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and type 2 diabetes. READ MORE

3. The impact of railway vibration and noise on sleep
Abstract : Sleep is a vital component of good health, and sleep loss is associated with impaired cognition, decreased psychomotor performance, cardiovascular disease, adverse effects on endocrine and metabolic function, negative mood, impaired memory, and more. A growing burden of freight transportation on global railway networks will likely lead to an increase in nocturnal vibration and noise at nearby dwellings. READ MORE

4. Conjugated linoleic acid and the metabolic syndrome : Clinical and metabolic studies with special reference to insulin resistance, oxidative stress and inflammation
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to investigate the metabolic effects of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) in middle-aged men with the metabolic syndrome, a high-risk group for type 2 diabetes. CLA is a group of fatty acid isomers with antiobesity and antidiabetogenic effects in animals, and CLA is therefore used as a supplement in humans. READ MORE

5. Influence of Herring (Clupea harengus) Intake on Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease
Abstract : This thesis describes four studies that investigated whether or not herring (Clupea harengus) intake decreases cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors. It has previously been shown that fatty fish and fish oil intake decreases the risk of atherosclerosis and CVD. READ MORE
