  1. 1. Physical Activity and Cardiovascular Disease

    Author : Kasper Andersen; Johan Sundström; Claes Held; Frieder Braunschweig; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physical activity; epidemiology; cohort study; heart failure; cardiovascular disease; arrhythmias; atrial fibrillation; bradyarrhythmias; sudden cardiac death; heart failure; stroke; ischemic heart disease; cardiovascular death; maximal exercise capacity; muscle strength; skeletal muscle morphology; Kardiologi; Cardiology; Epidemiology; Epidemiologi;

    Abstract : The aim was to investigate associations of fitness and types and levels of physical activity with subsequent risk of cardiovascular disease.Four large-scale longitudinal cohort studies were used. The exposures were different measures related to physical activity and the outcomes were obtained through linkage to the Swedish In-Patient Register. READ MORE

  2. 2. Being physically active as an adult with congenital heart disease

    Author : Annika Bay; Bengt Johansson; Kristina Lämås; Malin Berghammer; Camilla Sandberg; Anna Strömberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adult congenital heart disease; congenital heart disease; heart defect; physical activity; exercise self-efficacy; muscle function; quality of life; nursing; interviews; content analysis; prevention; omvårdnadsforskning med medicinsk inriktning; Caring Sciences;

    Abstract : Background: Due to advances in medical and surgical care adults with congenital heart disease (CHD) is a growing and aging population, that now outnumbers the children with CHD. In general, adults with CHD have reduced aerobic exercise capacity and nearly half of the patients do not reach current recommendations on physical activity. READ MORE

  3. 3. Management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and chronic heart disease in primary health care : Guidelines, patients and comorbidity

    Author : Maaike Giezeman; Kersti Theander; Mikael Hasselgren; Josefin Sundh; Jörgen Thorn; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; COPD; chronic heart failure; heart disease; patient outcomes; exercise self-efficacy; comorbidity; primary health care; cohort study;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this compilation thesis was to explore different aspects of the management of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and heart disease in primary health care: guideline adherence in chronic heart failure (CHF) management (I); comparing patients with COPD and heart failure, and factors associated with the pa-tients’ exercise self-efficacy (II); and the influence of comorbid heart disease in COPD over time (III–IV).Materials and methods: Cross-sectional data from primary health care: 155 patients with heart failure (I) and 150 with COPD and/or heart failure (II). 4. 4. Exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation, physical fitness, and physical activity in cardiac disease

    Author : Maria Borland; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation; exercise; physical fitness; physical activity; health-related quality of life; atrial fibrillation; heart failure;

    Abstract : Background: Evidence suggests that individualised exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation should be offered to patients with ischemic heart disease and chronic heart failure (HF) because it improves physical fitness and health-related quality of life (HR-QoL), and reduces cardiac mortality and hospital admissions. If physiotherapist-led exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation (PT-X) can similarly improve physical fitness in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF), and improve physical activity levels in patients with chronic HF or permanent AF, has been sparsely studied. 5. 5. Ischaemic heart disease - risk assessment, diagnosis, and secondary preventive treatment in primary care : with special reference to the relevance of exercise ECG

    Author : Gunnar Nilsson; Eva Samuelsson; Thomas Mooe; Per Wändell; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Exercise ECG; Ischaemic heart disease; Myocardial infarction; Prehospital delay; Primary care; Prognosis; Referral; Statin; Secondary prevention; Arbets-EKG; hjärtinfarkt; ischemisk hjärtsjukdom; sekundärprevention; Family Medicine; allmänmedicin;

    Abstract : Background: Ischaemic heart disease is a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge to most general practitioners. We sought to identify diagnostic characteristics and prognoses of patients in primary care that received exercise electrocardiography (ECG). We compared the ECG test results with respect to probability of subsequent cardiologist referrals. READ MORE
