  1. 21. Mechanical and histological disturbances in advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation

    Author : Matteo Cameli; Michael Henein; Guy Lloyd; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Advanced heart failure; heart transplantation; speckle tracking echocardiography; left ventricular function; right ventricular function; left ventricular fibrosis; left ventricular filling pressure; atrial strain; kariologi; Cariology;

    Abstract : The general purpose of this thesis is to establish capability and accuracy of speckle tracking echocardiography (STE) in assessing left atrial (LA), left ventricular (LV) and right ventricular (RV) function and their correlation with myocardial fibrosis, filling pressure and clinical outcomes in advanced heart failure (HF) patients before and after heart transplantation (HT).I demonstrated that HT recipients had impaired LV twist dynamics in the form of reduced rotation twist angle and untwist rate but time to peak twist was not different from the age matched controls and other cardiac surgical patients. 2. 22. Coping and emotional well-being in patients with chronic heart failure

    Author : Catarina Nahlen Bose; Fredrik Saboonchi; Gunilla Björling; Magnus L Elfström; Hans Persson; Jan Mårtensson; Karolinska Institutet Danderyd Hospital; Division of CardiovascularMedicine Dept of Clinical Sciences; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Heart failure; Coping; Illness perception; Emotional well-being; Quality of life; Intervention; Randomized controlled trial; Heart failure;

    Abstract : Background: Chronic heart failure (CHF) is a serious illness, with a profound impact on the patient. Poor health-related quality of life (HRQoL) as well as anxiety and depression are prevalent in CHF and predict mortality and rehospitalization, yet, psychosocial factors are infrequently treated and cared for. 3. 23. Management of patients treated with left ventricular assist devices : A clinical and experimental study

    Author : Bengt Peterzén; Henrik Casimir-Ahn; Hans Ruthberg; Lars Wiklund; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; postcardiotomy heart failure; perioperative monitoring; coronary artery bypass; heart-assist devices; heart failure; congestive; ventricular dysfunction; Thoracic surgery; Thoraxkirurgi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the management of patients treated with mechanical circulatory support devices for short- or long-term use. Twenty-four patients suffering from postcardiotomy heart failure were treated with a minimally invasive axial flow pump. READ MORE

  4. 24. Supportive care for patients with heart failure and their partners : A descriptive and interventional study

    Author : Susanna Ågren; Anna Strömberg; Rolf Svedjeholm; Sören Berg; Olle Söderhamn; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Heart failure; cardiac surgery; caregiver burden; intervention; health related quality of life; nursing; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Background: Having the support of a partner is essential for both health related quality of life and survival in heart failure patients. However, caring for a patient with heart failure may affect the health related quality of life, well‐being and cause a burden for the partner. READ MORE

  5. 25. Heart Valve Surgery : Preoperative Assessment and Clinical Outcome

    Author : Laila Hellgren; Elisabeth Ståhle; Mårten Rosenquist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Heart valve surgery; magentic resonance imaging; echocardiography; operative mortality; survival; complications; quality of life; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : A more global analysis of the outcome of heart valve surgery is desirable to reflect the actual benefit for the patient. This thesis focuses on the preoperative assessment of the patient, and the outcome after surgery with regard to operative mortality, long-term survival, valve-related complications, and quality of life.
