6. Pathophysiology of blood-brain barrier, brain edema and cell injury following hyperthermia : New role of heat shock protein, nitric oxide and carbon monoxide : an experimental study in rat using light and electron microscopy
Abstract : This thesis deals with the molecular mechanisms of hyperthermia induced brain damage in rats. The results clearly establish that hyperthermia caused by 4 h heat stress at 38° C is associated with a breakdown of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability which seems to be instrumental in causing brain edema and cell injury. 7. Combined structural methods to characterize an oligomeric small heat shock protein Hsp21
Abstract : Small heat shock proteins (sHsps) are found in all organisms and evolved early in the history of life, prior to the divergence of the three domains of life (Archaea, Bacteria, and Eukarya). Their malfunction is connected to several different diseases in humans, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. READ MORE

8. Exploring small heat shock protein chaperones by crosslinking mass spectrometry
Abstract : Together with other molecular chaperones, small heat shock proteins are key components of the protein quality control system, which is comprised of several hundred proteins and acts to maintain proteome homeostasis in the cell. Small heat shock proteins bind unfolding proteins at an early stage, to prevent these from further unfolding and aggregating. READ MORE

9. Vaccine strategies based on mycobacterial heat shock protein 65
Abstract : Mycobacteria can infect macrophages and dendritic cells (DC), where they reside inside the endosomal compartment. The importance of CD4+ T cells in protective immunity against mycobacteria and other intracellular pathogens is well established, and for a long time these cells were thought to be the major defense in controlling an infection. 10. Mapping ultrastructural effects of proteotoxic stress on S. cerevisiae
Abstract : Cells are the basic building blocks of any living being, whether the organism consists of only one, or many cells. The different cellular components interact with one another to maintain the viability of the cell. An essential element of cells are proteins – peptide chains folded into a specific conformation unique to every protein. READ MORE
