  1. 11. Corrosion testing of heat exchanger tubing

    Author : Ulf Kivisäkk; KTH; []
    Keywords : corrosion testing; heat exchanger; stainless steels; general corrosion; immersion testing; activation; stress corrosion cracking; constant load; u-bends; relaxation; dewpoint corrosion;

    Abstract : Heat exchanger tubes are commonly made from stainless steel.In a heat exchanger both the process fluid and the cooling orheating media can be corrosive. It is therefore important to beable to select materials that do not suffer from corrosion.Current methods in this area, however, suffer from limitationsand shortcomings. READ MORE

  2. 12. Pathophysiology of blood-brain barrier, brain edema and cell injury following hyperthermia : New role of heat shock protein, nitric oxide and carbon monoxide : an experimental study in rat using light and electron microscopy

    Author : Hari Shanker Sharma; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; blood-brain barrier; heat stress; hyperthermia; brain edema; serotonin; nitric oxide; carbon monoxide; heat shock protein; glial fibrillary acidic protein; myelin basic protein; opioids; histamine; catecholamines; naloxone; indomethacin; p-CPA; electron microscopy; immunocytochemistry; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Human Anatomy; anatomi;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the molecular mechanisms of hyperthermia induced brain damage in rats. The results clearly establish that hyperthermia caused by 4 h heat stress at 38° C is associated with a breakdown of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability which seems to be instrumental in causing brain edema and cell injury. 3. 13. Stress response in the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

    Author : Helder Miranda; Christiane Funk; Hans-Erik Åkerlund; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cyanobacteria; High light; heat stress; ROS; Photosynthesis; Photosystem II; Deg HtrA proteases; small CAB-like proteins; Refraction-2D™; MALDI-TOF; 2D-gel; GC-MS; PCA; OPLS-DA; EPS; S-layer; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Adaptation to environmental changes is important for the survival of living organisms. Under extreme abiotic conditions, organic molecules (such as lipids, proteins and nucleic acids) are prone to damage. READ MORE

  4. 14. Thriving in extremes : Local adaptation of grasses (Poaceae) to geothermally heated soils on a subarctic island

    Author : Jan-Niklas Nuppenau; Aelys M. Humphreys; Catarina Rydin; Johan Ehrlén; Alessandro Chiarucci; Stockholms universitet; []

    Abstract : Temperature is one of the most decisive parameters when it comes to determining characteristics and distributions of life worldwide. For plants, as sessile organisms, it is particularly important to be able to deal with the temperatures they are exposed to at a given location. READ MORE

  5. 15. Heat transfer phenomena and mould flux lubrication in continuous casting of steel

    Author : Akira Yamauchi; KTH; []
    Keywords : Heat Transfer; Thermal Conductivity; Contact Resistance; Mould Flux; Solidification; Lubrication; Infiltration; Friction; Shear Stress; Modeling; Crystallization; Rupture Strength; Solidus; High-Speed Casting; Viscosity; Elasticity; Uniform Cooling;

    Abstract : Overall thermal resistance of the mould flux was measured tomake clear the influence of the mould flux properties on theheat transfer behavior in continuous casting, especiallythermal conductivity and the formation of air gaps in thisstudy. From the investigation of the effect of the mouldsurface temperature and physical properties of the mould fluxon heat transfer through the flux film, following knowledge hasbeen obtained. READ MORE
