  1. 1. Heavy Metal Exposure in Early Life - Health and Labour Market Perspectives

    Author : Yana Pryymachenko; Centrum för ekonomisk demografi; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Metal pollution; accumulated exposure; lead pollution; GPA; education; earnings; infant mortality; cognitive skills;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of three empirical studies on the effects of exposure to heavy metal pollution in early childhood on a broad set of individual outcomes. The first study analyses how accumulated exposure to metal pollution during childhood affects long-run outcomes. READ MORE

  2. 2. Heavy metal contamination and toxicity : Studies of Macroalgae from the Tanzanian Coast

    Author : Florence Alex Mamboya; Mats Björk; Nils Ekelund; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Heavy metals; Padina gymnospora; Ulva reticulata; salinity; nutrients; proteins; uptake; growth; Fv Fm; Zanzibar Channel; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi; växtfysiologi; Plant Physiology;

    Abstract : Concentrations of various metals are elevated above background levels in several intertidal areas along the Tanzanian coasts. However, there is little available information concerning the toxicity of these metals and how the uptake of these metals by bioindicators are influenced by external factors, such as heavy rains and increased coastal eutrophication, which tend to fluctuate. 3. 3. Work ability and exposure to work demands among workers with neck pain

    Author : Stefan Oliv; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; work ability; prevention; neck pain; sikness absence; musculoskeletal disorders; exposure; Work demands;

    Abstract : Neck pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal disorders, which causes sickness absence and early retirement. Manual labor, awkward postures and repetitive work are commonly reported as causes for work-related neck disorders. Both neck pain and heavy physical work have been linked to lower levels of work ability. READ MORE

  4. 4. Heavy metal removal by floating treatment wetlands: Plant selection

    Author : Maria Schück; Maria Greger; Åsa Danielsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Phytoremediation; Rhizofiltration; Heavy metal; Chloride; Floating treatment wetland; Wetland plants; Stormwater; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : Elevated levels of heavy metals and chloride are commonly found in stormwater, as a consequence of pollution from traffic, building material and industries, and the use of salt for deicing in wintertime. Floating treatment wetlands (FTWs), consisting of vegetated rafts that can be placed in stormwater ponds, may be able to reduce heavy metal and chloride concentrations, but until this date have mainly been used for nutrient removal in warm climates. 5. 5. Deactivation of emission control catalysts for heavy-duty vehicles : Impact of biofuel and lube oil-derived contaminants

    Author : Sandra Dahlin; Lars Pettersson; Isabella Nova; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NH3-SCR; Cu-SSZ-13; V2O5-WO3 TiO2; catalyst deactivation; diesel oxidation catalyst; sulfur; phosphorus; biodiesel; heavy-duty; emission control; regeneration; alkali metals; NH3-SCR; Cu-SSZ-13; V2O5-WO3 TiO2; katalysatordeaktivering; dieseloxidationskatalysator; svavel; fosfor; biodiesel; tunga dieselmotorer; avgasrening; regenerering; alkalimetaller; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Catalytic emission control is used to reduce the negative impact of pollutants from diesel exhausts on our health and on the environment. For a heavy-duty truck, such a system consists of a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), a diesel particulate filter (DPF), a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst, and an ammonia slip catalyst (ASC).
