  2. 22. Effects of trace elements in biodiesel on the performance of diesel oxidation catalysts in heavy-duty vehicles

    Author : Jonas Granestrand; Lars Pettersson; Todd J. Toops; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Diesel Oxidation catalyst; heavy-duty vehicles; catalyst deactivation; biodiesel; NAP-XPS; XANES; Phosphorus; alkali metals; Pt Pd Al2O3; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : To reduce net greenhouse gas emissions, a shift towards adoption of biofuels is ongoing in the transport sector. Heavy-duty diesel vehicles are equipped with aftertreatment equipment, comprising of catalysts and filters, and how this equipment is affected by the use of biofuels is not yet fully understood. 3. 23. Heavy metal removal by floating treatment wetlands: Plant selection

    Author : Maria Schück; Maria Greger; Åsa Danielsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Phytoremediation; Rhizofiltration; Heavy metal; Chloride; Floating treatment wetland; Wetland plants; Stormwater; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : Elevated levels of heavy metals and chloride are commonly found in stormwater, as a consequence of pollution from traffic, building material and industries, and the use of salt for deicing in wintertime. Floating treatment wetlands (FTWs), consisting of vegetated rafts that can be placed in stormwater ponds, may be able to reduce heavy metal and chloride concentrations, but until this date have mainly been used for nutrient removal in warm climates. 4. 24. Selection of Resistance at very low Antibiotic Concentrations

    Author : Erik Gullberg; Dan I Andersson; Diarmaid Hughes; Linus Sandegren; Laura Piddock; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Antibiotic resistance; Selection; Antibiotic resistant bacteria; Minimal inhibitory concentration; Heavy metals; Conjugative plasmid; ESBL; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology; Biology with specialization in Microbiology; Biologi med inriktning mot mikrobiologi; Biology with specialization in Molecular Evolution; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär evolution;

    Abstract : The extensive medical and agricultural use and misuse of antibiotics during the last 70 years has caused an enrichment of resistant pathogenic bacteria that now severely threatens our capacity to efficiently treat bacterial infections. While is has been known for a long time that high concentrations of antibiotics can select for resistant mutants, less is known about the lower limit at which antibiotics can be selective and enrich for resistant bacteria. 5. 25. Modern landfill leachates – quality and treatment

    Author : Hanna Modin; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Heavy metals; European Landfill Directive; Biodegradation; Landfill leachate; Leaching tests; Multivariate data analysis; Organic matter; Sorption filters;

    Abstract : Waste management in Europe has changed, mainly as a result of stricter regulations, most notably the European Landfill Directive 1999/31/EC. In Sweden, landfill tax and a ban on the landfilling of waste with total organic carbon content over 10 % have diverted large amounts of waste from landfills. READ MORE
