  1. 1. Lipoproteomics : mapping of proteins in LDL and HDL

    Author : Helen Karlsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : High-density lipoprotein (HDL) and (LDL)-density lipoprotein (LDL) are important lipoprotein fractions in human plasma. HDL is the most abundant lipoprotein particle and a negative risk factor of atherosclerosis while LDL is considered to possess atherogenic properties. READ MORE

  2. 2. Lipoproteomics : A New Approach to the Identification and Characterization of Proteins in LDL and HDL

    Author : Helen Karlsson; Mats Lindahl; Christer Tagesson; Pia Davidsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; LDL; HDL; Proteomik; Atheroskleros; Masspektrometri; 2-DE; Molecular medicine; Molekylär medicin;

    Abstract : A proteomic approach was applied to examine the protein composition of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) in humans. LDL and HDL were isolated by density gradient ultracentrifugation, and proteins were separated with twodimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) and identified with peptide mass fingerprinting, using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry, and with amino acid sequencing using electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry. 3. 3. Regulation of innate and acquired immunity in infants by commensal bacteria

    Author : Helen Karlsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : intestinal microflora; commensal; antigen-presenting cells; dendritic cells; CD25 regulatory T cells; allergy; infants; Staphylococcus aureus;

    Abstract : The incidence of atopic diseases in children is steadily increasing in the industrialised world along with an improved hygienic lifestyle. The gastrointestinal flora may be of specific importance for the proper maturation of the immune system and for the induction of tolerance, in which CD25+ regulatory T cells (Tregs) play a crucial role. 4. 4. Exposure and body burden of environmental pollution and risk of cancer in a historically contaminated areas

    Author : Ingela Helmfrid; Gun Wingren; Helen Karlsson; Marika Berglund; Mats Fredrikson; Mattias Öberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Contaminated area; cancer; exposure; metals; POPs; Consumption of local food;

    Abstract : There are many villages where environmental contamination is substantial due to historical industrial activities. According to the European Environment Agency, there are about 2.5 million potentially contaminated sites in the European member states. In Sweden, there are about 80 000 more or less contaminated areas. READ MORE

  5. 5. Lipoproteomics : Environmental and Genetic Factors Affecting High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL)

    Author : Stefan Ljunggren; Mats Lindahl; Gun Wingren; Helen Karlsson; Jan Albert Kuivenhoven; Björn Dahlbäck; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Lipoprotein particles act as lipid transporters in the blood stream, and measuring cholesterol content in specific subclasses of lipoprotein particles has long been, and still is, a frequently used tool to estimate the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). High-density lipoprotein (HDL) is a subclass of lipoproteins often regarded as providing protection against CVD via several functions including reverse cholesterol transport and anti-inflammatory capacities.
