21. From stem cell to neuron : a Sox perspective
Abstract : The differentiation of stem cells into the more than 100 billion neurons that compose the central nervous system (CNS) is one of the most remarkable transformations during vertebrate development. A central problem of this process is how neural lineage selection initially is specified in pluripotent stem cells and maintained during the course of neurogenesis. READ MORE

22. Nuclear pore membrane glycoprotein 210 as a new marker for epithelial cells
Abstract : Epithelial cell polarisation is a prerequisite for the branching morphogenesis in several organs. Differential screening techniques were used to identify genes, which are upregulated during induction of epithelium in early kidney development. READ MORE

23. Molecular recognition of proteins by functionalized folded polypeptide receptors
Abstract : This thesis describes the design, synthesis and characterization of synthetic receptor molecules for the recognition and binding of proteins with applications in bioseparation and biosensing. A 42-residue polypeptide, designed to fold into a helix-loop-helix motif and dimerize in solution to form a four-helix bundle, was used as the scaffold. READ MORE

24. Design, Synthesis and Characterization of Small Molecule Inhibitors and Small Molecule : Peptide Conjugates as Protein Actors
Abstract : This thesis describes different aspects of protein interactions. Initially the function of peptides and their conjugates with small molecule inhibitors on the surface of Human Carbonic Anhydrase isoenzyme II (HCAII) is evaluated. READ MORE

25. NMR studies on calcium-induced conformational transitions in calmodulin
Abstract : Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy was used in order to investigate the relationships between structure, dynamics and calcium binding in the intracellular regulatory protein, calmodulin. Calmodulin consists of two similar domains, each binding two calcium ions with positive cooperativity. READ MORE
