  1. 1. On the role of the fusion protein DEK-NUP214 in leukemogenesis

    Author : Malin Ageberg; Avdelningen för hematologi och transfusionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mRNA translation; Medicin människa och djur ; fusion gene; Medicine human and vertebrates ; leukemia;

    Abstract : The t(6;9) translocation is found in a subset of patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and is associated with a poor prognosis. The translocation results in the formation of the DEK-NUP214 fusion protein containing almost the entire nuclear protein DEK and two thirds of the nucleoporin NUP214. READ MORE

  2. 2. Haemophilia A - In pursuit of optimised outcomes via personalised treatment

    Author : Alexandros Arvanitakis; Malmö Klinisk koagulationsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Haemophilia A (HA) is a hereditary bleeding disorder, characterised by deficiency of coagulation factor VIII (FVIII). Repeated joint bleeds can lead to permanent joint damage. FVIII replacement therapy has a high cost and can reduce but not completely prevent bleeding. READ MORE

  3. 3. Development of Mouse Models and Gene Therapy for Gaucher Disease

    Author : Ida Berglin-Enquist; Avdelningen för molekylärmedicin och genterapi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Gaucher disease (GD) patients cannot metabolize glycosphingolipids properly due to deficiency of the enzyme glucosylceramidase (GCase). The lack of animal model for GD has hindered comprehensive investigation of disease mechanisms and also the development of curative treatment strategies such as hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) targeted gene therapy. 4. 4. Characterization of human myeloid progenitors and their differentiation

    Author : Louise Edvardsson; Avdelningen för hematologi och transfusionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine human and vertebrates ; extracellular fluids; Haematology; Medicin människa och djur ; thrombopoietin receptor; hematopoiesis; transcription factors; growth factor receptors; human myeloid progenitors; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Abstract : All hematopoietic cells are derived from the hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) in a continuous and dynamic process, regulated by a network of transcription factors in different combinations and extrinsic signals from growth factors (GFs) and other factors in the microenvironment. In the initial stages of hematopoiesis HSCs differentiate to progenitor cells with gradually more restricted lineage potential and according to the most accepted model the first restriction in developmental potential results in commitment to either the lymphoid or the myeloid branch, in the latter followed by commitment to the neutrophil/monocyte and erythrocyte/megakaryocyte lineages. 5. 5. Genetic Screening in Patients Suspected of Inherited Bleeding Disorders

    Author : Marcus Fager Ferrari; Malmö Klinisk koagulationsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bleeding; Inherited Bleeding Disorders; Platelet Dysfunction; Thrombocytopenia; Genetic Screening; High-Throughput Sequencing; STX11; STXBP2; UNC13D; FGB; COL1A1; COL3A1; COL5A1; COL5A2; GNE; Sialic Acid; Oseltamivir;

    Abstract : Inherited bleeding disorders constitute a heterogeneous group of genetic diseases, affecting virtually all major components of the hemostatic system. The diagnostics are potentially complex, and a high proportion of patients remain without a conclusive diagnosis following work-up. READ MORE
