  1. 16. Molecular and cellular analysis of Lhx2 function in hematopoietic stem cells

    Author : Karin Richter; Leif Carlsson; Andrew Elefanty; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hematopoietic stem cells; Lhx2; cell lines; self renewal; SCF; IL-6; chronic myeloproliferative disorder; global gene expression analysis; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : The formation of blood, hematopoiesis, is a dynamic process originating from a small number of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). To sustain hematopoiesis throughout life HSCs have the unique capacity to differentiate into all mature hematopoietic lineages as well as generating more HSCs by a mechanism referred to as self-renewal. 2. 17. Neural Stem and Progenitor Cells : Cellular Responses to Known and Novel Factors

    Author : Jimmy Larsson; Karin Forsberg-Nilsson; Ola Hermanson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neural stem cell; differentiation; proliferation; migration; PDGF; SCF; NRBP2; medulloblastoma; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Biochemistry; Medicinsk biokemi;

    Abstract : Neural stem cell self-renewal and differentiation are tightly regulated events during CNS development, leading to cell division into new neural stem cells or the formation of neurons and glial cells. This thesis focuses on the cellular responses induced by known and novel factors in neural stem and progenitor cells (NSPCs). READ MORE

  3. 18. THE HYPOXIC HEMATOPOIETIC STEM CELL NICHE Consequences of Hypoxia-induced Transcription on Stem Cell Fate

    Author : Matilda Rehn; Avdelningen för molekylärmedicin och genterapi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hematopoietic Stem Cells; Stem Cell Niche; Hypoxia; Hypoxia-Inducible Factor; Vegfa.;

    Abstract : Hematopoiesis is the process of blood formation that originates with the hematopoietic stem cell (HSC), a cell type that is responsible for the life-long supply of mature blood cells. HSCs are defined by their ability to self-renew as well as giving rise to differentiated cells of all blood lineages. READ MORE

  4. 19. Adenovirus species B: receptors, tropism and hematopoietic cells

    Author : Anna Segerman; Göran Wadell; Ya-Fang Mei; Urs Greber; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microbiology; Adenovirus; Species B; hematopoietic; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology; immunology; infectious diseases; Mikrobiologi; immunologi; infektionssjukdomar; medicinsk virologi; Medical Virology;

    Abstract : At present, the human adenoviruses (Ads) comprise 51 members, which have been classified into six species (A to F). In general, adenovirus (Ad) tissue tropism or disease patterns vary according to species, although adenoviruses from different species can sometimes cause the same symptoms. READ MORE

  5. 20. Targeting the hematopoietic stem cell to correct osteopetrosis

    Author : Carmen Flores Bjurström; Avdelningen för molekylärmedicin och genterapi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hematopoietic stem cells; bone marrow transplantation; gene therapy; osteoclasts; infantile malignant osteopetrosis;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on developing stem cell targeted gene therapy for the severe hereditary disorder Infantile Malignant Osteopetrosis (IMO) as well as increasing the understanding of how the genetic defect present in IMO affects the hematopoietic stem cells and hematopoiesis in general. IMO is a rare congenital disorder associated with an increased number of non-functional osteoclasts and the absence of bone resorption results in accumulation of sclerotic bone leading to abnormal bone marrow cavity formation insufficient to support hematopoiesis.
