6. Recovery of Hemicelluloses Extracted from Spruce and Wheat Bran : Membrane Filtration Process Development and Cost Estimates
Abstract : Hemicelluloses are a group of abundant polymers found in all plants and constitute about one third of the total plant biomass. These polymers can be used in many different products, such as oxygen barrier films, emulsifiers, foams and probiotic food additives. READ MORE

7. Functional and Renewable Galactoglucomannan-based Hydrogels
Abstract : Polysaccharides represent an important resource for a variety of products, from food via fuel supply to functional materials of every kind. Here they are, due to their natural diversity found in many special applications, e.g. in the biomedical sector. READ MORE

8. Multifunctional carbohydrate-based soft materials from cereal by-products
Abstract : Cereal production generates large quantities of by-products every year, which still remain underutilized. The hemicellulose fractions from cereal by-products are anticipated to play an important role in tomorrow's sustainable and bio-based circular economy. READ MORE

9. Wood hydrolysate Barriers
Abstract : Wood hemicellulose is an abundant but fairly unexploited renewable feedstock. Recent studies have shown that hemicelluloses have a large potential for use in the food packaging industry as a sustainable alternative to the conventional oxygen-barrier materials used today. READ MORE

10. Structural changes during cellulose composite processing
Abstract : Two approaches for creating a new all-cellulose composite material have been studied: the biosynthesis of compartmentalised bacterial cellulose fibril aggregates and the compression moulding of commercial chemical wood pulps processed with only water. The objective was to study the structural changes during processing and the complexity of relating the mechanical properties of the final biocomposites to the nanoscale structure was highlighted.
