    University dissertation from Department of Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology, Lund University

    Author : Corina Fallgren; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2000]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microbiology; and biomaterials bonded with antibiotics; heparin-binding growth factors; staphylococci; heparin; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : Popular Abstract in Swedish Användningen av konstgjorda material för temporärt och permanent bruk, t.ex katetrar, skruvar, ledproteser är numera väl etablerad inom human- medicinen. READ MORE

  2. 2. Lipoprotein lipase in hemodialysis patients and healthy controls effects of heparin

    University dissertation from Department of Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology, Lund University

    Author : Birgit Näsström; Umeå universitet.; Umeå universitet.; [2004]
    Keywords : dalteparin; dialysis; lipoprotein metabolism; LMWH; LPL; triglycerides; UFH; uremia; medicinsk och fysiologisk kemi; Medical and Physiological Chemistry;

    Abstract : Mortality from cardiovascular disease in patients on chronic hemodialysis (HD) is 10 to 20 times greater than in the general population. One major risk factor is renal dyslipidemia, characterised by an impaired catabolism of triglyceride (TG)-rich lipoproteins with accumulation of atherogenic remnant particles. READ MORE

  3. 3. Heparin coating and cardiotomy suction in cardiopulmonary bypass

    University dissertation from Department of Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology, Lund University

    Author : Staffan Svenmarker; Umeå universitet.; [2003]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; cardiopulmonary bypass; oxygenators; heparin; S100 proteins; blood loss; haemostasis; memory; outcome and process assessment; Kirurgi; MEDICINE Surgery; MEDICIN Kirurgi; kirurgi; Surgery;

    Abstract : The present thesis addresses various means of reducing inflammatory responses associated with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) and retransfusion of pericardial suction blood (PSB) during cardiac surgery. Four (I-IV) prospective randomised controlled clinical trials comprising 475 patients were performed in the following areas: effects of heparin coating on measures of clinical outcome and memory function (I, II), inflammatory reactions in PSB and its systemic effects after retransfusion using cardiotomy suction or cell salvage (III) and effects of retransfusion of PSB on memory function and release patterns of protein S100B (IV). 4. 4. Enzymes involved in biosynthesis and degradation of heparin-related polysaccharides

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Dagmar Sandbäck Pikas; Uppsala universitet.; [1999]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; heparin; heparan sulphate; biosynthesis; N-deacetylase N-sulphotransferase; endoglycosidase; heparanase; Biokemi; MEDICINE Chemistry Biochemistry; MEDICIN Kemi Biokemi; Medical and Physiological Chemistry; medicinsk och fysiologisk kemi;

    Abstract : Heparin and heparan sulphate (HS) are structurally related polysaccharides of the glycosaminoglycan type. As the glycan moiety of proteoglycans, they exist covalently linked to various core proteins. READ MORE

  5. 5. Novel chemical and enzymatic routes to the generation of heparin- related polysaccarides

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Jianhui Rong; Uppsala universitet.; [1999]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; heparin; heparan sulphate; biosynthesis; 2-O-sulphotransferase; neo-glycosaminoglycan; conjugation; Biokemi; MEDICINE Chemistry Biochemistry; MEDICIN Kemi Biokemi; Medical Biochemistry; medicinsk biokemi;

    Abstract : Heparin and heparan sulphate (HS) are structurally related polysaccharides influencing various biological processes. The biological functions of heparin/HS largely depend on interactions between the negatively charged polysaccharide chains and a variety of proteins. READ MORE
