  1. 1. Midgut carcinoid tumours - biochemical and therapeutic aspects

    Author : Gunnel Westberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; carcinoid syndrome; valvular heart disease; 5-HT; chromogranins; octreotide; hepatic arterial embolization;

    Abstract : The biology of human midgut carcinoid tumour was studied experimentally in primary cell culture and clinically in patients with the midgut carcinoid syndrome. In cell cultures, tumour cells had a secretory pattern of 5-HTP, 5-HT and 5-HIAA specific for each tumour indicating individual regulation of synthesis/degradation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Affibody Molecules for HER3-targeted Theranostics of Malignant Tumours

    Author : Maria Rosestedt; Anna Orlova; Vladimir Tolmachev; Olof Eriksson; Sten Nilsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; affibody molecules; theranostics; HER3; molecular imaging;

    Abstract : The HER3 receptor plays a strong role in disease progression and resistance to therapies in several cancer types. Due to its endogenous expression and low overexpression in malignant tumours, it is a particularly challenging target. READ MORE

  3. 3. Aspects on Diagnosis and Treatment of Gastrointestinal Neuroendocrine Tumours

    Author : Christina Swärd; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Carcinoid; Endocrine pancreatic tumour; Neuroendocrine; Octreotide; Somatostatin receptor; Peptide receptor; Radionuclide therapy; Absorbed dose; Chromogranin A; Liver transplantation;

    Abstract : Aspects on Diagnosis and Treatment of Gastrointestinal Neuroendocrine Tumours Background. Gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumours (GEP-NETs) originate from endocrine cells of the intestinal mucosa and pancreas. READ MORE

  4. 4. Targeted radiotherapy in metastatic neuroendocrine tumours: clinical and experimental studies

    Author : Anna-Karin Elf; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neuroendocrine tumour; peptide receptor radionuclide therapy; somatostatin receptor 2 expression; radiosensitization; radioembolization; diffusion weighted imaging;

    Abstract : ABSTRACT Neuroendocrine tumours (NET) often present at a metastatic stage, which diminishes the possibility for curative surgery. Peptide receptor radiotherapy (PRRT) with 177Lu-DOTATATE targets somatostatin receptors, which are overexpressed on NET cells. PRRT results in symptom relief and often tumour control of NETs, but rarely cure. READ MORE

  5. 5. Medical Laser-Induced Thermotherapy - Models and Applications

    Author : Christian Sturesson; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; blood perfusion; mathematical modelling; liver tumours; Atomic and molecular physics; benign prostatic hyperplasia; Atom- och molekylärfysik; Fysicumarkivet A:1998:Sturesson; hyperthermia; Coagulation; tissue optical properties;

    Abstract : Heat has long been utilised as a therapeutic tool in medicine. Laser-induced thermotherapy aims at achieving the local destruction of lesions, relying on the conversion of the light absorbed by the tissue into heat. In interstitial laser-induced thermotherapy, light is focused into thin optical fibres, which are placed deep into the tumour mass. READ MORE
