  1. 6. The function of Smc5/6 in Drosophila development and at the heterochromatin-like locus HMR in budding yeast

    Author : Martin Tran; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The structural maintenance of chromosome 5/6 (Smc5/6) complex is one out of many factors in the cell that maintain genome stability. Smc5/6 has been implicated in processes such as DNA double-strand break (DSB) repair, replication progression, and chromosome segregation. READ MORE

  2. 7. Characterization of RNA polymerase II subunit Rpb7 in silencing and transcription

    Author : Ingela Djupedal; Karl Ekwall; Anthony Wright; Olivier Voinnet; Södertörns högskola; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The DNA in eukaryotes is arranged in fibres of chromatin. The chromatin may be more or less compacted and the degree of condensation of the chromatin affects the accessibility of the DNA. The accessibility of the DNA, in turn, affects transcription and gene regulation. READ MORE

  3. 8. Nuclear compartmentalization of viral and cellular proteins involved in gamma-herpes virus (EBV and HHV-8) mediated cellular transformation

    Author : Karin Mattsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : EBV; HHV-8; latency; PML nuclear body; fluorescence microscopy;

    Abstract : The aim of the work described in this thesis has been to characterize the nuclear compartmentalization of cellular and viral proteins involved in EBV or HHV-8 mediated cellular transformation. We have studied the EBV encoded EBNA-5 and its association with the PML nuclear bodies (NBs) and nuclear inclusions. READ MORE

  4. 9. The role of nuclear envelope proteins in chromatin organization, differentiation and disease

    Author : Cecilia Bergqvist; Einar Hallberg; Philippe Collas; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear envelope proteins; chromatin organization; epigenetics; differentiation; quantitative image analysis; Samp1; neurokemi med molekylär neurobiologi; Neurochemistry with Molecular Neurobiology;

    Abstract : In eukaryotes the genetic material is separated from the cytoplasm by the nuclear envelope (NE), consisting of the outer and inner nuclear membrane, the nuclear lamina and the nuclear pores. The genetic material is highly structured with transcriptionally inactive heterochromatin enriched at the nuclear periphery and transcriptionally active euchromatin in the nuclear interior. 5. 10. Recombination frequencies in hybrid females of inbred lines of Drosophila melanogaster

    Author : Staffan Lake; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The intention of the present study was to examine the effect of the maternal genome and cytoplasm, of the attachment of extra heterochromatin of the transposing of heterochromatic regions into euchromatic parts and of temperature shocks during various stages of the development on recombination in Drosophila metanogaster. The access to marker genes along the X-chromosome induced in the inbred line made it possible to examine this array of different conditions in females with an isogenic background. READ MORE
