  1. 6. Surface Vibrational and Electron Spectroscopy - Experiments and first-principle calculations

    Author : Martin Andersson; Kemisk fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gränsskikt; anharmonicity; Ytkemi; Surface and boundary layery chemistry; adsorbates; metal surface; density functional theory; first-principle calculations; electron spectroscopy; reflection-absorption infrared spectroscopy; vibrational spectroscpy;

    Abstract : This work deals with interpretation of experimental surface spectroscopic data with the aid of first-principle calculations. Surface infrared reflection-absorption spectra as well as spectra from the electron spectroscopic methods photoemission and X-ray absorption are considered. READ MORE

  2. 7. Surface Studies of Model Systems relevant for Pd and Ag Catalysts

    Author : Natalia Martin; Synkrotronljusfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; High Pressure X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy; X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy; alumina; Ag; NiAl; Pd; catalysis; model system; Surface X-ray Diffraction; Low Energy Electron Diffraction; Scanning Tunneling Microscopy; Fysicumarkivet A:2014:Martin;

    Abstract : This PhD thesis reports on investigations of the atomic scale structure of model catalysts relevant for the catalytic oxidation of CO and methane over Pd, and NOx reduction over silver-alumina, important reactions in automotive catalysts. By using complementary experimental techniques such as X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, High Pressure X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, Surface X-ray Diffraction, Low Energy Electron Diffraction, Infrared Spectroscopy, and Scanning Tunneling Microscopy, combined with theoretical calculations, the work presented in this thesis aims at an atomistic characterization of the active sites for silver-alumina and Pd model catalysts which may help to the design of new and improved catalysts. Abstract : Nature captures sunlight via light-absorbing molecules.Similarly, photosensitisers are used in applications of solar cells and artificial photosynthesis to absorb sunlight, and transfer the excited electron. READ MORE

  4. 9. Conversion processes for biofuel production

    Author : Jerry Luis Solis; Yohannes Kiros; Mohammad Taherzadeh; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Second-generation biofuels; biodiesel; heterogeneous catalysts; non-edible oils; ethanol; residual biomass; native yeast strains.; Andra generationens biobränslen; biodiesel; heterogena katalysatorer; oätliga oljor; etanol; rester av biomassa; naturliga jäststammar; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : Despite the global positive impacts of soybean-, maize- and sugarcane-based (first-generation) liquid biofuels, several drawbacks pertaining to increased use of agricultural land, causing deforestation in some countries and extensive practice of fertilizers have been observed. As a result, developing advanced (second- and third-generation) liquid biofuels have been identified as better alternatives and are considered to be of great importance in the future. READ MORE

  5. 10. Theoretical Studies on CO2 Reduction Electrocatalysts

    Author : Xiaoyu Chen; Mårten S. G. Ahlquist; Sandra Luber; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Computational Chemistry; CO2 reduction; electrocatalysis; Teoretisk kemi och biologi; Theoretical Chemistry and Biology;

    Abstract : The atmospheric CO2 concentration has increased by more than 20% since 1980s and has now reached the highest level than at any point in the past 800 000 years. Electrochemical CO2 reductions are receiving particular in- terest as the apparatus are relatively easy to maintain and cheap to operate. READ MORE
