  1. 1. Beta-Glycosidases from Hyperthermophiles as Biocatalysts

    Author : Therese Hansson; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bioteknik; Biochemical technology; Biokemisk teknik; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi; Biotechnology; high temperatures; water activity; activity; selectivity; hexanol; hexyl-b-glycoside; galacto-oligosaccharides; lactose; hyperthermostable b-glycosidase; hydrolysis; optimisation; transglycosylation;

    Abstract : The thesis concerns glycosyl transfer with use of b-glycosidases, most of them from hyperthermophilic organisms. Both optimisation of the reaction conditions and protein engineering in terms of site-directed mutagenesis were used to improve b-glycosidase-catalysed reactions. READ MORE

  2. 2. On the Diluent and Solvent Effects in Liquid-Liquid Extraction Systems based on Bis-triazine-bipyridine (BTBP) ligands

    Author : Elin Löfström Engdahl; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Solvent effects; Diluent effects; GANEX; Interfacial tension; Density;

    Abstract : Used nuclear fuel is dangerous for mankind and her environment for a long time. If however, the minor actinides together with uranium and plutonium could be transmuted, i.e. transformed, into more shortlived or stable isotopes the volume of the waste could be significantly reduced together with a reduction in the radiotoxicity. 3. 3. Lipase chemoselectivity - kinetics and applications

    Author : Cecilia Hedfors; Karl Hult; Mats Martinelle; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Candida antarctica lipase B; Rhizomucor miehei lipase; active site titration; kinetics; chemoselectivity; thiol; alcohol; thiol-functionalized polyesters; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract :   A chemoselective catalyst is preferred in a chemical reaction where protecting groups otherwise are needed. The two lipases Candida antarctica lipase B and Rhizomucor miehei lipase showed large chemoselectivity ratios, defined as (kcat/KM)OH / (kcat/KM)SH, in a transacylation reaction with ethyl octanoate as acyl donor and hexanol or hexanethiol as acyl acceptor (paper I). 4. 4. Solution properties of a hydrophobically modified polymer

    Author : Krister Thuresson; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; sodium dodecylsulfate; surfactants; fluorescence; light scattering; NMR; rheology; cloud point; phase behaviour; polyelectrolytes; ethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose; hydrophobically modified; water soluble polymers; aggregation number; association; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : The influence of hydrophobic modification on solution properties of water-soluble polymers in the semi-dilute regime have been studied. The nonionic ethyl(hydroxyethyl)cellulose (EHEC) and its hydrophobically modified analogue (HM-EHEC) are used as model substances. READ MORE

  5. 5. Catalyst Deactivation by Coke Formation. A Study of the Carbonaceous Layer on a Used Hydrogenation Catalyst

    Author : Åsa Wrammerfors; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The carbonaceous layer, formed on a Ni/SiO2 catalyst, and its influence on the selectivity in a hydrogenation reaction have been studied. The model reaction system studied was the consecutive hydrogenation of 2-ethyl-hexenal: Exposure of the catalyst to 2-ethyl-hexenal or cyclopentadiene at elevated temperatures before the hydrogenation, yielded an increased selectivity toward the formation of 2-ethyl-hexanal.
