  1. 16. Hierarchical energy management in smart grids : Flexibility prediction, scheduling and resilient control

    Author : Kaveh Paridari; Lars Nordström; Henrik Sandberg; Geert Deconinck; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : The electric power industry and society are facing challenges and opportunitiesof transforming the present power grid into a smart grid. Energymanagement systems (EMSs) play an important role in smart grids. A generalhierarchical structure for EMSs is considered here, which is composed ofa lower layer and an upper layer. READ MORE

  2. 17. Enhanced block sparse signal recovery and bayesian hierarchical models with applications

    Author : Jianfeng Wang; Jun Yu; Anders Garpebring; Jia Li; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Magnetic resonance imaging; Bayesian hierarchical models; Weather Research and Forecasting; Compressive sensing; Block sparsity; Multivariate isotropic symmetric a-stable distribution; q-ratio block constrained minimal singular value;

    Abstract : This thesis is carried out within two projects ‘Statistical modelling and intelligentdata sampling in Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron-emission tomography(PET) measurements for cancer therapy assessment’ and ‘WindCoE -Nordic Wind Energy Center’ during my PhD study. It mainly focuses on applicationsof Bayesian hierarchical models (BHMs) and theoretical developments ofcompressive sensing (CS). READ MORE

  3. 18. Bone structure characterisation using neutron scattering techniques

    Author : Elin Törnquist; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; biomechanics; neutron tomography; x-ray tomography; small-angle neutron scattering SANS ; small-angle x-ray scattering SAXS ; Experimental mechanics; implant integration; tomography; nanoscale; microscale; mechanical properties;

    Abstract : Bones have unique mechanical properties that originate from their main constituents: mineral, in the form of hydroxyapatite (HAp) crystals, and collagen type-I. The stiffness of the HAp mineral combined with the flexibility of collagen, and their intricate hierarchical arrangement from the smallest individual building blocks to the organ level, result in a composite tissue with a remarkable ability to withstand complex loading scenarios. 4. 19. A structure editor for documents and programs

    Author : Ola Strömfors; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a generalized approach to data editing in interactive systems. The design and implementation of the ED3 editor, which is a powerful tool for text editing combining the ability to handle hierarchical structures with screen-oriented text editing facilities, is described as well as a number of ED3 applications. 5. 20. Nanocellulose based 3D printed hydrogel scaffolds for cartilage and bone regeneration : Tuning of composition, pore structure and functions

    Author : Sahar Sultan; Aji P. Mathew; Lennart Bergström; Gustav Nyström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nanocellulose materials; 3D printing; gradient biphasic hydrogel scaffolds; metal-organic frameworks; hydroxyapatite; cartilage and bone regeneration; osteochondral scaffolds; materialkemi; Materials Chemistry;

    Abstract : Biobased-materials with customized scaffolds have played a prominent role in the success of tissue engineering (TE). Cellulose nanomaterials (CNM) isolated from the abundant biopolymer, cellulose, is explored in this thesis for TE engineering due to its versatile properties such as biocompatibility, high specific strength, surface functionality and water retention capacity.
