  1. 11. Experimental studies of particle production in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions

    University dissertation from Division of Cosmic and Subatomic Physics, Department of Physics, Lund University

    Author : Pål Nilsson; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2001]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Pad chambers; PHENIX; WA98; phi-meson; tracking; single particle spectra; heavy-ion collisions; inverse slope parameters; particle production; RHIC; charged particle multiplicity; pad readout; SPS; Physics; Fysik; Atomic and molecular physics; Atom- och molekylärfysik; Fysicumarkivet A:2001:Nilsson;

    Abstract : Popular Abstract in Swedish Denna lilla skrift behandlar ett område inom fysiken som kallas högenergetisk tungjonsfysik. Kort förklarat betyder detta att vi studerar kärnmateria under extrema förhållanden, såsom höga temperaturer och höga tryck. READ MORE

    University dissertation from Division of Solid State Physics, Department of Physics, Lund University,Box 118, SE-221 00 Lund, Sweden

    Author : Boel Gustafson; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2001]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gravitation; relativity; quantum mechanics; classical mechanics; Mathematical and general theoretical physics; Fysik; Physics; High peak-to-valley ratio; Lateral confinement; Quantum dots; Resonant tunneling; Self-assembled quantum dots; Schottky depletion; Buried metal gate; Electron transport; Magnetic-field dependence; Energy level width; Tunneling transistors; Mode coupling; statistical physics; thermodynamics; Matematisk och allmän teoretisk fysik; klassisk mekanik; kvantmekanik; relativitet; statistisk fysik; termodynamik; Technological sciences; Teknik; Fysicumarkivet A:2001:Gustafson;

    Abstract : In the thesis, three-dimensionally confined resonant tunneling structures were studied experimentally. Two approaches were used for obtaining quantum confinement: gate-defined lateral constriction of double barrier structures, and epitaxial growth of self-assembled quantum dots. READ MORE

  3. 13. Laser Diagnostic Techniques with Ultra-High Repetition Rate for Studies in Combustion Environments

    University dissertation from Division of Combustion Physics, Department of Physics, Lund University

    Author : Jimmy Olofsson; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2007]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; High-Speed; High Repetition Rate; LIF; PLIF; 3D Visualisation; Engine; Teknik; Technological sciences; Fysik; Physics; Combustion; Laserteknik; Laser technology; Laser-Induced Fluorescence; Laser Diagnostics;

    Abstract : When conducting laser based diagnostics in combustion environments it is often desirable to obtain temporally resolved information. This can be due to several factors such as combustion taking place in a turbulent flow field, flame propagation from a spark plug in an initially quiescent combustible mixture, or rapid, multi-point fuel consumption in a homogeneous charge as a result of compression ignition in an engine cycle. 4. 14. Development of Detector Systems for Internal and Fixed Target Heavy Ion Physics Experiments

    University dissertation from Department of Physics, Lund University

    Author : Pavel Golubev; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2003]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Multi-detector system; VLSI electronics; ultra-thin detectors; heavy ion reactions; nuclear intensity interferometry; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; ultra-high vacuum compatibility; Fysicumarkivet A:2003:Golubev;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with intermediate energy heavy ion reactions with the particular aim to study the nuclear matter equation of state which defines the relation between statistical parameters of a fermionic system. The development of equipment for two experiments, CA47 at The Svedberg Laboratory in Uppsala, Sweden and R16 at Kernfysisch Versneller Instituut (KVI), Groningen, The Netherlands, are described. 5. 15. Single-Photon Events in the DELPHI Experiment

    University dissertation from Department of Physics, Lund University

    Author : Elisabeth Falk; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [1998]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; kvantfältteori; Elementarpartikelfysik; quantum field theory; DELPHI; STIC; LEP; single-photon events; PS; off-energy electrons; silicon-strip detector; coherent noise; emittance; Elementary particle physics; fast wire scanner; High energy interactions; cosmic rays; Kosmisk strålning; högenergi; Fysicumarkivet A:1998:Falk Harris;

    Abstract : A series of studies pertaining to the STIC calorimeter at the DELPHI experiment at LEP is presented, and a new generation of fast wire scanners for emittance measurements at PS is described. The STIC studies are centered around a single-photon analysis, in which the reaction e+ e- -> gamma + invisible particles was studied at center-of-mass energies of 161, 172 and 183 GeV. READ MORE
