  1. 1. Nearest Neighbor Classification in High Dimensions

    Author : Sampath Deegalla; Henrik Boström; Slawomir Nowaczyk; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nearest Neighbor; High-Dimensional Data; Curse of Dimensionality; Dimensionality Reduction; data- och systemvetenskap; Computer and Systems Sciences;

    Abstract : The simple k nearest neighbor (kNN) method can be used to learn from high dimensional data such as images and microarrays without any modification to the original version of the algorithm. However, studies show that kNN's accuracy is often poor in high dimensions due to the curse of dimensionality; a large number of instances are required to maintain a given level of accuracy in high dimensions. 2. 2. Properties of oxygen carriers based on natural and waste materials at high degrees of reduction

    Author : Victor Purnomo; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; high reduction; defluidization; chemical-looping gasification; oxygen carrier; reactivity;

    Abstract : Oxygen carriers play an important role in multiple energy conversion processes, such as chemical-looping technology and oxygen-carrier-aided combustion. This thesis particularly explores how a high reduction degree of an oxygen carrier can affect its performance. READ MORE

  3. 3. Reduction of Aerodynamic Forcing inTransonic Turbomachinery : Numerical Studies on Forcing Reduction Techniques

    Author : Florian Fruth; Torsten Fransson; Damian Vogt; Ronald Mailach; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Forced Response; Aerodynamic Forcing; Efficiency; Blade Count Ratio; Clocking;

    Abstract : Due to more and more aggressive designs in turbomachinery, assuring the structural integrity of its components has become challenging. Also influenced by this trend is blade design, where lighter and slimmer blades, in combination with higher loading, lead to an increased risk of failure, e.g. in the form of blade vibration. 4. 4. Some aspects on the reduction of olivine pellets in laboratory scale and in an experimental blast furnace

    Author : Jerker Sterneland; KTH; []
    Keywords : Olivine; pellets; pellet testing; reduction softening melting; MPBO; blast furnace; reduction; quenching; dissection; coating; sticking; coated pellets;

    Abstract : The reduction behaviour of the olivine iron ore pellet MPBOwas studied in laboratory scale at KTH as well as in the LKABexperimental blast furnace. Initially, a newreduction-under-load, or so-called reduction/softening/melting,test equipment was developed. READ MORE

  5. 5. Breast Hypertrophy and outcome of Breast Reduction Surgery

    Author : Richard Lewin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Breast; Reduction; Mammaplasty; HRQL; Complications; Validation; Reliability; Breast Hypertrophy; Questionnaire;

    Abstract : Aim: The overall aim of this thesis was to improve our knowledge of breast hypertrophy in women, its associated problems, and the outcome of breast reduction. Patients and methods: I. Five hundred and twelve woman were studied retrospectively for prevalence of and risk factors for complications. II. READ MORE
