  1. 1. Vibrations in solids : From first principles lattice dynamics to high temperature phase stability

    Author : Nina Shulumba; Magnus Odén; Igor Abrikosov; Frank Mücklich; Matteo Calandra; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In this thesis I introduce a new method for calculating the temperature dependent vibrational contribution to the free energy of a substitutionally disordered alloy that accounts for anharmonicity at high temperatures. This method exploits the underlying crystal symmetries in an alloy to make the calculations tractable. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Technology and Economy of Farm-Scale, High-Solids Anaerobic Digestion of Plant Biomass

    Author : Mattias Svensson; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; farm-scale; Bioteknik; farmhouse construction; Lantbruksteknik; Biotechnology; agricultural machines; kontroll av utsläpp; Agricultural engineering; Miljöteknik; pollution control; Environmental technology; Lantbruksekonomi; straw bed priming; stratified bed digesters; nitrogen recycling; greenhouse gases; Sweden; Agricultural economics; sequential single-stage fed-batch; ley crops; sustainability; wheat straw; sugar beet tops; crop residues; high-solids; economy; Anaerobic digestion; biogas upgrading;

    Abstract : Anaerobic digestion is a microbially mediated process occurring in nature in the absence of oxygen and other non-carbonaceous electron acceptors. The majority of the carbon of the organic matter degraded in the process is transformed into carbon dioxide and methane. READ MORE

  3. 3. SOLIDS MIXING IN BUBBLING FLUIDIZED BEDS

    Author : Erik Sette; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fluid-dynamic scaling; Solids mixing; lateral dispersion; solids cross-flow;

    Abstract : For solid fuels, thermochemical conversion processes such as combustion and gasification are especially suitable to be carried out in fluidized bed units because of the relatively high mixing rates, fuel flexibility and the possibility to use active bed material to enhance process efficiency. Mixing of fuel is important to ensure complete conversion and reduced emissions of unburnt material. READ MORE

  4. 4. Production of Ethanol from Spruce at High Solids Concentrations - An Experimental Study on Process Development of Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation

    Author : Kerstin Hoyer; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ethanol; spruce; SSF; fermentation; enzymatic hydrolysis; lignocellulose; high solids;

    Abstract : Replacing fossil fuels by biofuels such as ethanol is considered a promising alternative to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and mitigate climate change. Biofuels produced from lignocellulosic biomass, so-called second generation biofuels, result in decreased GHG emissions and limit competition with food and animal feed production. READ MORE

  5. 5. Consolidation and Rheology at High Solids Content

    Author : Jerker Jäder; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Paper and board are pigment coated in order to achieve a smooth surface, thereby enhancing the optical and printing properties. In the most frequently used technique, a metal blade is used for metering off the coating colour, which is typically applied by roll or jet application. READ MORE
