6. Microstructural changes in high strength steels exposed to large deformation and high strain rates
Abstract : Increasing steel prices and environmental aspects have put forward the demand to reduce material consumption and energy usage in manufacturing industry and near-net-shape manufacturing techniques have thus become increasingly important. High-velocity parting-off,high-velocity forming and cold ring rolling are three such manufacturing methods that exhibit great potentials in terms of material waste reduction. READ MORE

7. Static and fatigue analyses of welded steel structures : some aspects towards lightweight design
Abstract : The objectives of this thesis comprise of overcoming the challenges in designing lightweight welded structures such as material selection, choice of fatigue design methods, and increased performance by using improvement techniques. Material selection of welded joints is dependent on the filler and base material strengths. READ MORE

8. Resistance of cold-formed high strength steel sections : Effect of cold-formed angle
Abstract : Cold-formed steel members are increasingly used in industrial and civil construction. Their use allows optimised member cross sections and shapes, thereby reducing the amount of steel used as well as the weight of the structures and, consequently, reducing harmful effects on the environment. 9. Increasing phase transformation rate in advanced high strength steel applications
Abstract : The bainite transformation rate has been shown to increase by starting the heat treatment with partial martensite transformation after austenitization. Based on this fact, a process very similar to “Quenching and Partitioning” (Q&P) is used to produce a fine-grained complex microstructure of martensite, bainite and retained austenite with outstanding mechanical properties in a very short time. 10. Effect of Microstructure on Mechanical Properties of High Strength Steel Weld Metalsn
Abstract : The effects of variations in alloying content on the microstructure and mechanical properties of high strength steel weld metals have been studied. Based on neural network modelling, weld metals were produced using shielded metal arc welding with nickel at 7 or 9 wt. %, manganese at 2 or 0.5 wt. READ MORE
