21. YBCO nanowires to study nanoscale ordering in High-Tc Superconductors
Abstract : We present the realization of YBa2Cu3O7-δ (YBCO) nanowires for both basic physics studies, which could help to elucidate the microscopic mechanisms of High critical Temperature Superconductors (HTS), and for novel applications. The first part of the thesis describes an improved nanopatterning procedure, based on e-beam lithography in combination with an amorphous carbon mask and a very gentle Ar+ ion etching. 22. Investigations of Transition Metal Systems : Angle-Resolved Photoelectron Spectroscopy at Low and High Energy
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis aims at achieving an increased understanding of the electronic structure of materials whose properties are to a large extent governed by transition metals. All studies are based on data from angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES) employed on the valence band of the studied systems. READ MORE

23. Bi2212 intrinsic Josephson junctions, fabrication and high frequency properties
Abstract : The objective for this work was to investigate the high-frequency properties of Bi2212 intrinsic Josephson junctions (IJJ’s). Particularly, the possibility to reach the THz range with a SIS mixer is theoretically promising due to the high energy gap of Bi2212. READ MORE

24. Study of MgB2 HEB mixers at THz frequencies
Abstract : The terahertz (THz) range is very attractive for astronomical observations. Spectroscopy and photometry of remote space objects in the THz range allows for a study of their chemical composition, because this range covers rotational lines from simple molecules and electron transition lines from atoms and ions. 25. Local structure in disordered materials studied by neutron scattering and RMC modelling
Abstract : Different disordered materials are becoming more and more important in various technological applications. There is a need to improve our detailed understanding of the local structure of such materials and how the atomic structure is related to macroscopic physical properties. READ MORE
