11. Chemical and Biochemical Biorefineries in Kraft Pulp Mills – Process Integration and Economics for Three Concepts
Abstract : Some of the advantages of integrating biorefinery concepts with kraft pulp mills are that the utility system can be shared and that mass and energy streams can be exported from the pulp mill to the biorefinery or vice versa. These measures may result in lower investments and operating costs for the biorefinery compared with stand-alone operations. READ MORE

12. On the Interrelation Between Kraft Cooking Conditions and Pulp Composition
Abstract : In the early 1990’s, a lot of work was focused on extending the kraft cook to a low lignin content (low kappa number). The driving force was the need to further reduce the environmental impact of the bleaching, as less delignification work would be needed there. READ MORE

13. Additive-Driven Improvements in Interfacial Properties and Processing of TMP-Polymer Composites
Abstract : Efforts to address environmental concerns have resulted in new regulations designed to plan the reduction of plastic and synthetic polymer usage, necessitating the search for sustainable natural alternatives with comparable cost-effectiveness and mechanical performance. Thermomechanical pulp (TMP) fibres are one of the most affordable natural fibres that have no chemical refining in production, production have a high yield of 90-98% and TMP fibres have been demonstrated to improve the mechanical characteristics (strength, stiffness and toughness) of wood-polymer composites (WPCs) compared to the pure polymer. 14. Biobased carbon fibers from solution spun lignocellulosic precursors
Abstract : Carbon fibers (CFs) have excellent mechanical properties and a low density, making themattractive as a reinforcing fiber in composites. The use of CFs is limited to high-end applications, since they are produced from an expensive fossil-based precursor via an energy-intensivemanufacturing process, explaining the need for cheaper CFs from renewables. 15. Network Disruption and Turbulence in Fibre Suspensions
Abstract : The production of paper pulp involves the handling of large quantities of fibre suspensions. Today's call for energy efficiency and environmentally sound processes has led to the development of MC (Medium Consistency) technology. READ MORE
