  1. 1. Phase transitions in high-temperature superconductors

    Author : Jack Lidmar; KTH; []
    Keywords : Superconductivity; Vortices; Phase transitions; Strongly correlated fermions; High-temperature superconductivity; Monte Carlo simulations.; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Thermal fluctuations and disorder strongly influence the behaviour of hightemperature superconductors. In particular the vortices play a key role in determining their properties. In this thesis the main focus lies on phase transitions, both in ultra-thin films and in three-dimensional systems, which are driven by vortex fluctuations. READ MORE

  3. 3. Multipoles in Correlated Electron Materials

    Author : Francesco Cricchio; Lars Nordström; Peter Oppeneer; Igor Solovyev; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; correlated electrons; magnetic ordering; multipoles; actinides; hidden order; high temperature superconductors; Fe pnictides; electronic structure calculations; Condensed matter physics; Kondenserade materiens fysik; Superconductivity; Supraledning; Electronic structure; Elektronstruktur; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : Electronic structure calculations constitute a valuable tool to predict the properties of materials. In this study we propose an efficient scheme to study correlated electron systems with essentially only one free parameter, the screening length of the Coulomb potential. READ MORE

  4. 4. Quantum dynamics of spin active and d-wave Josephson junctions

    Author : Jens Harro Michelsen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Josephson effect; macroscopic quantum tunneling; high-temperature superconducvity; superconducting junctions; spin-active junctions; nonequilibrium superconductivity; Andreev bound states;

    Abstract : Conventional tunnel Josephson junctions form the basic building blocks of superconducting electronics. Their operation is based on comparatively simple dynamics where the superconducting phases across the junctions is the only dynamical degree of freedom. READ MORE

  5. 5. The paramagnetic Meissner effect

    Author : Evie Papadopoulou; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; high-temperature superconductivity; Bi-based compounds; paramagnetic Meissner effect; ageing; disordered magnets; chiral-glass; Materialvetenskap; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Solid State Physics; fasta tillståndets fysik;

    Abstract : The low field dynamics of some high temperature superconductors have been studied experimentally, using SQUID magnetometry. The research has been focused on the so called Paramagnetic Meissner Effect (PME), a phenomenon seen in some high temperature superconducting cuprates. READ MORE
