16. Towards Quantitative Diagnostics using Short-Pulse Laser Techniques
Abstract : Laser based diagnostic tools have had an exploding impact on fundamental as well as applied research in a number of disciplines, such as biomedicine, physical chemistry etc over the last decades. Whereas fundamental research often investigate phenomena in extreme conditions, applied research aims at performing in-situ measurements, in order to understand the many aspects and entangled phenomena that affects the research of interest. 17. The data perspective on chiral effective field theory
Abstract : The scientific method implies a dynamical relationship between experiment and theory. Indeed, experimental results are understood through theories, which themselves are of less value until confronted with experiment. READ MORE

18. Efficient sampling of Bayesian posteriors and predictive distributions in χEFT
Abstract : In this thesis I employ Bayesian statistics to quantify parametric and epistemic uncertainties in chiral effective field theories (χEFT) and propagate these forward to predictions of observables in low-energy nuclear physics. Two primary sources of uncertainty---experimental errors and the theoretical error induced by the truncation of the EFT at up to next-to-next-to-leading-order---are modelled and accounted for in the posterior distributions of the unknown low-energy constants (LECs) that govern interaction strengths in χEFT. 19. Theoretical studies of light propagation in photonic and plasmonic devices
Abstract : Photonics nowadays is one of the most rapidly developing areas of modern physics. Photonic chips are considered to be promising candidates for a new generation of high-performance systems for informational technology, as the photonic devices provide much higher information capacity in comparison to conventional electronics. 20. Picosecond X-ray Diffraction Studies of Bulk and Nanostructure Materials
Abstract : Fast phenomena occurring after laser excitation were studied using time-resolved X-ray diffraction (TXRD). In most experiments, a femtosecond laser pulse was used to excite the sample, and X-rays were used as a probe. READ MORE
