11. Improving the Efficiency of Public Procurement : Empirical evidence using micro-level contract data
Abstract : Among OECD countries, close to one-third of government expenditure is allocated using public procurement. This implies that the skill of public authorities in handling the procurement format has a significant impact on how much the public sector accomplish in relation to their goals and responsibilities. 12. Computational Engineering Development and Implementation of Computational Methods for Structural Analysis and Design
Abstract : 'Computational engineering' (CE) is computation based on mathematical models for use in engineering design. CE can be used to study and optimise structures and processes in industry and other branches of society to utilise resources in the most effective way. Modelling, simulation, optimisation and visualisation are basic methods of CE. READ MORE

13. Organic micropollutants in highway stormwater and the role of a gross pollutant trap-biofilter stormwater treatment train
Abstract : The studies which this thesis is based on assessed the stormwater quality in a highway catchment located in Sundsvall, Sweden, and examined the performance of a gross pollutant trap (GPT)-biofilter stormwater treatment train (TT) downstream of the catchment, in terms of removal efficiency, intra-event variability, and environmental risk reduction of organic micropollutants (OMPs) for the receiving water body. Assessing the occurrence and event mean concentrations (EMCs) of all OMPs in the catchment revealed that bisphenol A (BPA), octylphenol (OP), nonylphenol (NP), five carcinogenic and four non-carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and C16-C40 fractions of petroleum hydrocarbons (PHCs) all potentially pose an environmental risk to freshwater (EMCs >PNEC: predicted non-effect concentration), while alkylphenolethoxylates, six low- molecular weight PAHs, and lighter fractions of PHCs (C10-C16) do not occur at problematic levels. 14. On design and analysis of synchronous permanent magnet machines for field-weakening operation in hybrid electric vehicles
Abstract : A regular vehicle of today is equipped with an internal combustion engine that runs on either gasoline or diesel, which are fossil fuels from oil reserves that are millions of years old. In all types of combustion processes carbon dioxide and several other emissions are produced. READ MORE

15. Traffic Situation Management for Driving Automation of Articulated Heavy Road Transports - From driver behaviour towards highway autopilot
Abstract : In this thesis traffic situation management for driving automation of long combination vehicles is discussed. The automation targets high-speed driving in multiple-lane, one-way roads. Traffic situation predictions, traffic situation manoeuvres and driving principles are studied specifically. READ MORE
