  1. 1. Tissue reactions to biomaterials

    Author : Agneta Rosengren; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cytochemistry; Histology; Macrophages; Cryosubstitution; Proteins; Immunohistochemistry; Titanium; Implants; PTFE; histochemistry; tissue culture; Histologi; cytokemi; histokemi; vävnadskultur;

    Abstract : The biological response to different implanted biomaterials vary. The relative importance of factors in the material and host for this variation are at present incompletely known. READ MORE

  2. 2. Inducible nitric oxide synthase in experimental urinary tract infection

    Author : Mirjana Poljakovic; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Urology; host defense; cell viability; nitrate; lipopolysaccaride; cytokines; sphingomyelinase; mitogen activator protein kinase; nitric oxide; nitrotyrosine; E. coli; cyclooxygenase; urinary tract infection; prostaglandins; urothelium; bladder; kidney; NADPH diaphorase histochemistry; nitric oxide synthase; vävnadskultur; histokemi; cytokemi; Histologi; tissue culture; histochemistry; cytochemistry; Histology; nefrologi; Urologi; nephrology; Infections; Infektioner;

    Abstract : Urinary tract infection (UTI) is among the most common bacterial infections in humans and the majority are caused by Escherichia coli (E. coli). Abundant evidence indicates that nitric oxide (NO) produced by the inducible NO synthase (iNOS) plays an important role in host defense against infection. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies on Peripheral Nerve Regeneration: Microdispensing, Neurite Guidance and Galectins

    Author : Per Gustavsson; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; vävnadskultur; histokemi; cytokemi; Histologi; tissue culture; histochemistry; cytochemistry; Histology; Schwann cells; sciatic nerve; dorsal root ganglia; DRG; neurite guidance; galectins; inkjet; microdispensing; peripheral nervous system; nerve regeneration; Animal physiology; Djurfysiologi; Biotechnology; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : The present thesis describes development of a microdispenser-based technique to create of protein patterns for neurite guidance. The same technique was also developed to allow direct positioning of dissociated cells, including neurons, on cell culture substrates. Finally the role of galectin-3 and 8 during nerve regeneration was investigated. READ MORE

  4. 4. Pituitary Adenylate Cyclase Activating Peptide (PACAP): An Experimental Study On the Expression and Regulation in the Peripheral Nervous System

    Author : Kristian Moller; Neuroendokrin cellbiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cytokemi; histokemi; Histologi; vävnadskultur; Histology; cytochemistry; histochemistry; tissue culture;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with PACAP and PACAP type-1 receptors in the sensory and autonomic parts of the peripheral nervous system. In the rat, PACAP is expressed in small-sized sensory neurons and in C-fibers. READ MORE

  5. 5. Distribution and function of TRP ion channels in primary sensory neurons

    Author : Helena Sturesson; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neurofysiologi; neuropsykologi; histokemi; cytokemi; vävnadskultur; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; tissue culture; histochemistry; cytochemistry; Histology; Skin; Immunohistochemistry; Cannabinoid receptor 1 CB1 ; Pain; Primary sensory neurons; TRP ion channels; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi; Histologi;

    Abstract : It is frequently argued that cannabinoids exert part of their analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects via activation of the cannabinoid CB1 receptor located on TRPV1-expressing primary sensory nerve fibres in peripheral tissues. However, we find no evidence of CB1 receptor immunoreactivity on nerve fibres in rat or mouse hindpaw skin and mesenteric artery. READ MORE
