    Abstract : Background: It has been proved that bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) saves lives; however, which training method in CPR is most instructive and whether survival is affected by the training level of the bystander have not yet been fully described. Aim: To identify the factors that may affect 7th grade students’ acquisition of CPR skills during CPR training and their willingness to act, and to describe 30-day survival from outof- hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) after bystander CPR and the actions performed by laymen versus off-duty medically educated personnel. 2. 2. In-Hospital Cardiac Arrest : A Study of Education in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and its Effects on Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes among Healthcare Professionals and Survival of In-Hospital Cardiac Arrest Patients

    Author : Marie-Louise Södersved Källestedt; Mats Enlund; Johan Herlitz; Jerzy Leppert; Eldar Søreide; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : cardiac arrest; cardiopulmonary resuscitation; in-hospital; healthcare professionals; education; multiple-choice questions; hjärtstopp; hjärt-lungräddning; sjukhus; sjukvårds¬personal; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : This thesis investigated whether outcome after in-hospital cardiac arrest patients could be improved by a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) educational intervention focusing on all hospital healthcare professionals. Annually in Sweden, approximately 3000 in-hospital patients suffer a cardiac arrest in which CPR is attempted, and which 900 will survive. READ MORE

  3. 3. Electroencephalography for neurological prognostication after cardiac arrest

    Author : Erik Westhall; Klinisk neurofysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; EEG; Interrater variability; Brain injury; Cardiac arrest; Hypothermia; Prognosis; Outcome;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the prognostic value of electroencephalography(EEG) in comatose patients resuscitated after cardiac arrest (CA), using both simplified continuous EEG monitoring (cEEG) and routine EEG. Background: Comatose survivors are admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU) to support vital functions. READ MORE

  4. 4. Induced hypothermia after cardiac arrest

    Author : Niklas Nielsen; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; complications; evidence; neurological outcome; survival; induced hypothermia; cardiac arrest; randomised trial; heart arrest;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on studies of the clinical use of induced hypothermia as an intervention to reduce mortality and neurological impairment after cardiac arrest. After the publication of two trials indicating benefit of induced hypothermia, we developed a registry to assess outcome, possible adverse events and conduct of induced hypothermia when this intervention was implemented in a clinical population of cardiac arrest patients. 5. 5. Cardiac arrest and therapeutic hypothermia: Prognosis and outcome

    Author : Malin Rundgren; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hypothermia; NSE; S-100B; EEG; cardiac arrest; prognosis;

    Abstract : Abstract Therapeutic hypothermia (TH) is the only treatment available to reduce neurological sequels for unconscious patients following cardiac arrest (CA). TH requires sedation and muscular relaxation, obscuring the clinical neurological examination for estimation of prognosis, and clinical decision making. READ MORE
