  2. 2. Molecular structure and intracellular location of five RNA : associated proteins in the salivary glands of the dipteran Chironomus tentans

    Author : Sun Xin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; hnRNPs; RNA-binding domains; shuttling proteins; non-shuttling proteins; nucleo-cytoplasmic transport; SR proteins;

    Abstract : The structure and intracellular flow of specific RNA-associated proteins have been characterized in the salivary gland cells in the dipteran Chironomus tentans. These cells contain four polytene chromosomes (I-IV), two of which harbour a nucleolus. READ MORE

  3. 3. The role of hnRNP A1 and hnRNP C1/C2 in the regulation of the stress responsive genes Cyp2a5/2A6 and p53

    Author : Kyle Christian; Matti Lang; Françoise Raffalli-Mathieu; Kirsi Vähägangas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Molecular biology; hnRNP; Tumor Suppressor Protein p53; CYP2A5; CYP2A6; Apoptosis; hnRNP C Proteins; hnRNP protein A1; Cancer; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : The family of proteins known as heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs) is large and diverse. Often, one and the same hnRNP will perform multiple cellular functions, leading to their description as “multifunctional proteins”. READ MORE

  4. 4. Control of human papillomavirus type 1 late mRNA stability and translation by an AU-rich RNA element

    Author : Marcus Sokolowski; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; HPV-1; HPV-16; late genes; 3´ UTR; L1; L2; c-fos; AU rich element; HuR; hnRNP C1 C2; mRNA stability; translation; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Virology; medicinsk virologi;

    Abstract : Human Papillomaviruses (HPVs) infect the epithelial tissues in humans and infection with certain high-risk types is associated with cancer. The expressionof the HPV late capsid genes is dependent on cell differentiation. This may be one reason for the lack of HPV replication in vitro. READ MORE

  5. 5. Somatostatin effects on the proteome of human prostate cancer cells

    Author : Zhaoxu Liu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : The transition of prostate cancer from androgen dependent to the therapy resistant androgen independent state, is a large and persistent problem in the clinical management of prostate cancer. The aim of this thesis was to study somatostatin effects on the proteome of prostate cancer cells, to identify differences in protein expression in androgen dependent and androgen independent prostate cancer cells, and to explore possibilities to enhance the somatostatin receptor expression through pre-treatment with sms, 5-aza and TSA (DNA methylation/HDAC inhibitors).
