1. Diffusion studies in gels using holographic laser interferometry
Abstract : This thesis is an investigation of the potential of holographic laser interferometry for the study of diffusion of both small solutes and macromolecules. An investigation on the importance of errors due to light deflection in refarctive index gradients showed that the magnitude of the refractive index gradients were negligible for the system investigated. 2. Holographic Wilson Loops : Quantum String Corrections
Abstract : The gauge-string duality has been one of the most exciting areas in theoretical physics as it connects strongly coupled field theories with weakly interacting strings. The present thesis concerns the study of Wilson loops in this correspondence. READ MORE

3. Digital holographic interferometry in a disturbed environment
Abstract : Digital holographic interferometry is an optical measurement technique that is capable of measuring the movement/deformation of an object surface with extremely high accuracy, spatial resolution and temporal resolution. But, because it is very sensitive to disturbances, it is mostly used in well controlled laboratory environments. READ MORE

4. Pulsed laser ablation studied using digital holographic interferometry
Abstract : Pulsed digital holographic interferometry has been used to investigate the plume and the shock wave generated in the ablation process of a Q-switched Nd-YAG (lambda= 1064 nm and pulse duration = 12 ns) laser pulse on a polycrystalline Boron Nitride (PCBN) target under atmospheric air pressure. A special set-up based on using two synchronised wavelengths from the same laser for simultaneous processing and measurement has been used. READ MORE

5. Digital holographic reconstructions of ultrasound from laser vibrometry recordings
Abstract : If sound and noise from an engine, say a lawn mower, is to be reduced, it is of advantage to know from which part of the machine the noise is coming. An interesting medical application for localization of sound sources is optoacoustic imaging of tissue. READ MORE
