21. Towards ultrafast imaging with extreme ultraviolet light sources
Abstract : This thesis reports experimental studies performed with two advanced coherent XUV sources with ultrashort pulse duration, high-order harmonic generation and seeded-free electron laser. High-order harmonic generation (HHG) is the generation of overtones of a fundamental laser pulse in a medium, e.g. noble gases. READ MORE

22. Ferroelectric domain engineering and characterization for photonic applications
Abstract : Lithium niobate (LiNbO3) and KTiOPO4 (KTP) are ferroelectric crystals of considerable interest in different fields of optics and optoelectronics. Due to its large values of the nonlinear optical, electro-optic (EO), piezoelectric and acousto-optical coefficients, LiNbO3 is widely used for laser frequency conversion using the quasiphase matching (QPM) approach where the sign of nonlinearity has been periodically modulated by electric field poling (EFP). 23. Digital holography and image processing methods for applications in biophysics
Abstract : Understanding dynamic mechanisms, morphology and behavior of bacteria are important to develop new therapeutics to cure diseases. For example, bacterial adhesion mechanisms are prerequisites for initiation of infections and for several bacterial strains this adhesion process is mediated by adhesive surface organelles, also known as fimbriae. 24. Design of Reconfigurable Hardware Architectures for Real-time Applications
Abstract : This thesis discusses modeling and implementation of reconfigurable hardware architectures for real-time applications. The target application in this work is digital holographic imaging, where visible images are to be reconstructed based on holographic recordings. READ MORE

25. Digital speckle photography and digital holography for the study of transparent media
Abstract : In the fields of combustion and fluid mechanics, temperature- and density fields are of interest to measure. Optical measurement methods may be used to study such transparent media. Flames, gases and liquids are examples of transparent media, often called phase objects in an optical context. READ MORE
