  1. 1. Bacterial DNA repair and molecular search

    Author : Arvid H. Gynnå; Johan Elf; Stephen Kowalczykowski; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DNA repair; DNA damage; homologous recombination; homologous repair; recombination; RecA; I-SceI; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biotechnology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär bioteknik;

    Abstract : Surveillance and repair of DNA damage is necessary in all kinds of life. Different types of DNA damage require different repair mechanisms, but these mechanisms are often similar in all domains of life. The most serious type of damage, double stranded DNA breaks, are for example repaired in conceptually similar ways in both bacteria and eukaryotes. READ MORE

  2. 2. Meiotic Recombination in Human and Dog : Targets, Consequences and Implications for Genome Evolution

    Author : Jonas Berglund; Matthew Webster; Kerstin Lindblad-Toh; Leif Andersson; Nadia Singh; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; recombination; biased gene conversion; CpG island; copy number variation; substitutions; methylation; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär genetik; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär evolution; Biology with specialization in Molecular Evolution; Molekylär genetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Abstract : Understanding the mechanism of recombination has important implications for genome evolution and genomic variability. The work presented in this thesis studies the properties of recombination by investigating the effects it has on genome evolution in humans and dogs. READ MORE

  3. 3. Interplay between Transcription and Homologous Recombination in the Presence of DNA Damage

    Author : Ivaylo Stoimenov; Thomas Helleday; Niklas Schultz; Natalia Issaeva; Thierry Nouspikel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; homologous recombination; transcription; DRB; UVC; 6-thioguanine; mammalian cells; BRCA1; BRCA2; PARP inhibitors; XP-V; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärgenetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Abstract : The biochemical processes of DNA repair, replication and recombination compete for the same substrate, the DNA molecule. This competition is natural, as each process requires the same template. In order to resolve possible conflicts between these processes, when they take place on a particular stretch of DNA, certain crosstalk is expected. READ MORE

  4. 4. Chromosome synapsis and recombination in yeast meiosis

    Author : Hasanuzzaman Bhuiyan; Karin Schmekel; Harry Scherthan; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; meiosis; recombination; synapsis; yeast; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Meiosis is a cell division process that produces haploid gametes from diploid cells. Several important meiotic events take place during prophase of meiosis I, most important being homologous chromosome pairing, meiotic recombination and formation of the synaptonemal complex (SC). 5. 5. Intelligent Nucleic Acid Interactions with Peptide Nucleic Acid (PNA) and Recombination Enzyme RecA

    Author : Pernilla Wittung; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fluorescence; RecA; homologous recombination; circular dichroism; DNA analogs; -anti-BPDE; spectroscopy; PNA; DNA-protein interactions;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis focuses on interactions between nucleic-acids in biological systems, particularly interactions of the promising drug-candidate peptide nucleic acid (PNA), and on protein-DNA intermediates during recombination. Several experimental techniques, mainly circular dichroism and fluorescence spectroscopy, have been used to characterize the interactions of interest. READ MORE
