  1. 11. Controlling Electronic and Geometrical Structure of Honeycomb-Lattice Materials Supported on Metal Substrates : Graphene and Hexagonal Boron Nitride

    Author : Nikolay Vinogradov; Nils Mårtensson; Karsten Horn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; graphene; h-BN; electronic structure; adsorption; doping; nano-templates; PES; NEXAFS; LEEM; STM; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : The present thesis is focused on various methods of controlling electronic and geometrical structure of two-dimensional overlayers adsorbed on metal surfaces exemplified by graphene and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) grown on transition metal (TM) substrates. Combining synchrotron-radiation-based spectroscopic and various microscopic techniques with in situ sample preparation, we are able to trace the evolution of overlayer electronic and geometrical properties in overlayer/substrate systems, as well as changes of interfacial interaction in the latter. 2. 12. Mathematical Modelling in Catalytic Automotive Pollution Control

    Author : Lennart Andersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; automotive pollution control; matematical modelling; monolith; selective catalytic reduction; mass transfer;

    Abstract : Design and control of honeycomb monolith reactors for catalytic automotive pollution control by mathematical modelling of the reactor has been studied. One aspect of the design has been that the use of metallic monolithic catalysts for automotive emission control raises certain optimization possibilities. READ MORE

  3. 13. Topological superconductivity in multiorbital materials

    Author : Johann Schmidt; Annica M. Black-Schaffer; Karyn Le Hur; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Superconductivity; Kitaev materials; Odd-frequency superconductivity; Topological superconductivity; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Multiorbital materials add a new intricacy to the already complex phenomenon of superconductivity. The additional orbital degree of freedom requires leaving behind the established band picture, but also opens the possibility of more complicated order parameters with new properties. READ MORE

  4. 14. Transverse anisotropy in softwoods : Modelling and experiments

    Author : Carl S. Modén; Lars Berglund; Lennart Salmén; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Softwood; Cellular solid; Anisotropy; Deformation mechanisms; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : Transverse anisotropy is an important phenomenon of practical and scientific interest. Although the presence of ray tissue explains the high radial modulus in many hardwoods, experimental data in the literature shows that this is not the case for pine. READ MORE

  5. 15. On dynamic crack growth in discontinuous materials

    Author : Johan Persson; Per Gradin; Per Isaksson; Sverker Edvardsson; Pär Jonsén; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In this thesis work numerical procedures are developed for modeling dynamic fracture of discontinuous materials, primarily materials composed of a load-bearing network. The models are based on the Newtonian equations of motion, and does not require neither stiffness matrices nor remeshing as cracks form and grow. READ MORE
