  1. 1. Hormone replacement therapy : benefits and adverse effects

    Author : Inga-Stina Ödmark; Mats Hammar; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hormone replacement therapy HRT ; bleeding pattern; progestogen; wellbeing; side effects; lipoprotein a ; Obstetrics and gynaecology; Obstetrik och gynekologi; obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

    Abstract : Background: Numerous studies have shown that estrogen replacement therapy (ERT) is an effective treatment for vasomotor symptoms, insomnia and vaginal dryness. Beneficial effects have also been shown on lipid patterns and on the incidence of osteoporotic fractures. READ MORE

  2. 2. Growth Hormone in Athletes

    Author : Christer Ehrnborg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Growth hormone; IGF-I; bone markers; doping; athletes; maximum exercise test; variability; supraphysiological; body composition; physical performance; IGFBP-4; IGFBP-5;

    Abstract : Doping with growth hormone (GH) is a well-known problem both among elite athletes and among people training at gyms. It is mainly the anabolic and, to some extent, lipolytic effect of GH that is valued by its users. READ MORE

  3. 3. Cardiovascular effects of growth hormone, IGF-I and growth hormone secretagogues

    Author : Åsa Tivesten; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : cardiovascular system; growth hormone; insulin-like growth factor-I; growth hormone secretagogues; echocardiography.;

    Abstract : Growth hormone (GH) may exert direct growth-promoting and metabolic actions on target tissues, but most of its effects are mediated by circulating (endocrine) or local (auto-/paracrine) insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I). The GH/IGF-I system has an important role during cardiac development and for maintaining the structure and function of the heart. READ MORE

  4. 4. Identification of novel growth hormone-regulated factors

    Author : Björn Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Growth hormone; idiopathic short stature; growth hormone deficient; prepubertal; children; genomic; proteomic;

    Abstract : The studies described in this thesis aimed to identify novel factors involved in the regulation of longitudinal growth and bone mineralization in response to growth hormone (GH) treatment. This was done by performing a single factor study (Paper I) where it was found that growth response was negatively correlated with adiponectin levels during the first year of GH treatment in short prepubertal children. 5. 5. Exposure to brominated flame retardants in electronics recycling : air and human plasma levels

    Author : Anneli Julander; Magnus Engwall; Bert van Bavel; Myrto Petreas; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; PBDE; BTBPE; DeBDethane; Thyroid hormone; Occupational exposure; Human plasma; Air sampling; MeO-PBDE; PBDE; BTBPE; DeBDetan; Sköldkörtelhormon; Yrkesexponering; Human plasma; Luftprovtagning; MeO-PBDE; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik; Enviromental Science; Miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), 1,2-bis(2,4,6-tribromophenoxy)ethane (BTBPE) and 1,2-bis(2,3,4,5,6-pentabromophenyl)ethane (DeBDethane) were analysed in air and blood samples from workers at an electronics recycling facility. The samples were collected regularly for 18 months and were analysed by isomer specific GC/MS analysis in both electron impact (EI) and negative chemical ionisation (NCI) mode. READ MORE
