  1. 1. Energy consumption transition : final household energy consumption in the case of Sweden 1920-2010

    Author : Mikael Levin; Lars-Fredrik Andersson; Ann-Kristin Bergquist; Thomas Pettersson; Bengt Kriström; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; economic history; households; energy transition; energy consumption; residential; electrical appliances; Carbon dioxide; emission; ekonomisk historia; Economic History;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis examines households’ final energy consumption over the long run by measuring their final energy use and examining how structural, institutional and economic factors affected the demand for energy in the residential sector during the period 1920-2010, a period covering the transition from traditional to fossil to renewable energy carriers. I believe that wider understanding of the historical energy transition and energy consumption within the residential sector might help us gain important insights into the long-run development and the factors affecting energy consumption among the households. 2. 2. Decentralization in energy systems - Low-carbon technologies and sector coupling on the household, community and city scales

    Author : Verena Heinisch; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Prosumers; Energy system flexibility; Decentralization; Energy community; Smart city; Sector coupling; Electric vehicles; Energy systems modeling;

    Abstract : The number of installations of distributed energy technologies, such as solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery systems, has increased dramatically in recent decades. The required transition towards a decarbonized energy system entails electrification of the different sectors. READ MORE

  3. 3. Apply heat pump systems in commercial household products to reduce environmental impact : How to halve the electricity consumption for a household dishwasher

    Author : Peder Bengtsson; Jonas Berghel; Per Lundqvist; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; household appliance; electricity consumption; heat pump; environmental impact; Miljö- och energisystem; Environmental and Energy Systems;

    Abstract : In the household appliance industry, heat pump systems have been used for a long time in refrigerators and freezers to cool food, and the industry has driven the development of small, high-quality, low-price heat pump components. In the last few decades, heat pump systems have been introduced in other household appliances, with the express purpose of reducing electricity consumption. READ MORE

  4. 4. Decentralization in the electricity system: At the household, community and city levels

    Author : Verena Heinisch; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Smart city; Storage systems; Power-to-heat; Optimization; Energy system modeling; Photovoltaic; Decentralization; Community energy; Prosumers;

    Abstract : Recent years have seen a rise in the number of implementations of small-scale generation and storage technologies for electricity and heat at different levels in the energy system. This trend towards decentralization of the system is driven by rapid decrease in technology costs, as well as the intentions expressed by various stakeholders to contribute to a carbon-neutral energy system. 5. 5. Towards sustainable energy consumption : Electricity demand flexibility and household fuel choice

    Author : Aemiro Melkamu Daniel; Lars Persson; Runar Brännlund; Rauli Svento; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Choice experiment; demand flexibility; electricity contract; fuel choice; fuel stacking; household heterogeneity; load control; pro-environmental framing; willingness-to-accept;

    Abstract : Paper [I] investigates household heterogeneity in valuing electricity contract attributes that include various load controls and information sharing to induce demand flexibility. Using a stated preference choice experiment conducted with Swedish households, this paper shows that, although a large proportion of households ask for substantial compensation, some households are willing to share their electricity consumption information and require relatively lower compensation to allow load controls.
