  1. 1. Testosterone : of importance in patients with dysglycemia and cardiovascular disease?

    Author : Anne Wang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: Testosterone has been associated with cardiovascular (CV) health in men and women with or without diabetes. There are however conflicting results which warrant further investigations to understand if testosterone is important for prognosis, in particular in relation to diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD). 2. 2. Acute coronary syndromes. The prognostic importance of hypertension, diabetes and vectorcardiographic markers

    Author : Markus Lingman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acute coronary syndromes; hypertension; diabetes; percutaneous coronary intervention; prognosis; myocardial ischemia; coronary artery disease; electrocardiography; vectorcardiography; arrhythmia; sudden death; electrophysiology;

    Abstract : Research questions: 1 Is hypertension and diabetes associated with the future risk of death, and recurrent manifestations of cardiovascular disease in acute coronary syndromes (ACS)? 2 How does myocardial ischemia affect depolarization and repolarization of the heart during the early phase of an acute myocardial infarction? 3 What is the prognostic value of accepted vectorcardiographic markers in relation to future risk of sudden cardiac death after ACS? Methodology: Papers I, III and IV studied patients with ACS prospectively and consecutively included at the coronary care unit of Sahlgrenska University Hospital. Paper I deals with 2,329 patients who were followed for a median of 8 years. READ MORE

  3. 3. Platelet function and thrombin generation in ischemic stroke : clinical correlates and prognostic importance

    Author : Annika Lundström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Platelet function is central to atherothombotic diseases and antiplatelet agents prevent non-cardioembolic ischemic stroke (IS). Individual differences in platelet reactivity may limit the response to antiplatelet treatment, leading to so-called high on-treatment platelet reactivity (HPR). READ MORE

  4. 4. Surface Chemical Characteristics of Chromium-alloyed Steel Powder and the Role of Process Parameters during Sintering

    Author : Dimitris Chasoglou; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; carbothermal reaction; sintering atmosphere; depth profiling; XPS AES; HR SEM EDX; water atomized powder; surface coverage; reduction oxidation; PM steels; sintering; Cr-Mn-spinel oxides; surface oxides;

    Abstract : Powder Metallurgy (PM) is a cost efficient method suitable for sustainable production of structural parts that have strict dimensional tolerances and complex geometries. It has been a common practice to utilize Ni and Cu as alloying elements in PM steels, but the high and fluctuating prices of Ni and the concerns around it associated with health hazards as well as the difficulty in recycling Cu lead the PM industry to search for effective alternatives such as Cr and Mn. 5. 5. The Plasminogen Activation System in Human Endometrium and Endometrial Cancer; Function, Tissue Localization and Prognostic Importance

    Author : Johanna Nordengren; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrics; progesterone; estradiol; cultured cells; gene expression; prognosis; hyperplasia; neoplasm; endometrium; human; Plasminogen activators; gynaecology; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Abstract : The release of urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) from endometrial stromal cells decreased after progesterone stimulation, due to upregulation of PA inhibitor 1 (PAI-1) and uPA receptor (uPAR). Subsequently, the uPA:PAI-1 complex was internalized and degraded via uPAR. READ MORE
