  1. 21. Pathophysiology of blood-brain barrier, brain edema and cell injury following hyperthermia : New role of heat shock protein, nitric oxide and carbon monoxide : an experimental study in rat using light and electron microscopy

    Author : Hari Shanker Sharma; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; blood-brain barrier; heat stress; hyperthermia; brain edema; serotonin; nitric oxide; carbon monoxide; heat shock protein; glial fibrillary acidic protein; myelin basic protein; opioids; histamine; catecholamines; naloxone; indomethacin; p-CPA; electron microscopy; immunocytochemistry; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Human Anatomy; anatomi;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the molecular mechanisms of hyperthermia induced brain damage in rats. The results clearly establish that hyperthermia caused by 4 h heat stress at 38° C is associated with a breakdown of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability which seems to be instrumental in causing brain edema and cell injury. 2. 22. Intracranial Pressure in Traumatic Brain Injury

    Author : Sima Shahsavari; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Brain Swelling; Cerebral Autoregulation; Secondary Brain Injury; Traumatic Brain Injury; Cerebral Compliance; Intracranial Dynamics; Intracranial Pressure;

    Abstract : Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) continues to be a major problem worldwide. Today, intensive care of patients with TBI is mainely focused on preventing and treating secondary brain injuries. High pressure inside the intracranial cavity (ICP) has been found to be an important feature of disturbed cerebral dynamics and secondary injuries. READ MORE

  3. 23. Human Forkhead Genes

    Author : Stefan Pierrou; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; transcription factor; FREAC; human forkhead homologues;

    Abstract : The forkhead family constitutes a group of genes which encodes transcription factors that share a common DNA-binding domain, the forkhead domain. The first member to be discovered was the Drosophila melanogaster gene fork head. Members of this family have been found in a variety of species from bakers' yeast to man. READ MORE

  4. 24. Modeling glioblastoma heterogeneity to decipher its biology

    Author : Yuan Xie; Lene Uhrbom; Massimo Squatrito; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glioblastoma multiforme; biobank; GBM cells; cell of origin; LGR5; OPCs;

    Abstract : Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common and lethal form of primary brain tumor that mainly affects adults. GBM displays remarkable intra- and inter-tumoral heterogeneity and contains a subpopulation of cells named glioma stem cells that is believed to be responsible for tumor maintenance, progression and recurrence. 5. 25. Brain matter matters : renewal in the human brain

    Author : Maggie Yeung Wong; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Many cells have a shorter life span than the organism itself and are continuously being replaced. However, for many cell types in the human body it is still largely unknown whether they turn over at all once development is complete. READ MORE
