  1. 11. Mismatch repair deficiency in colorectal cancer : prognosis and prediction for basic treatment strategies

    Author : Ioannis Gkekas; Jan Novotny; Karin Strigård; Richard Palmqvist; Ulf Gunnarsson; Christian Sturesson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; colorectal cancer; defective mismatch repair; prognosis and prediction; Oncology; onkologi;

    Abstract : Colorectal cancer (CRC) remains a significant healthcare problem worldwide, being the third most common cancer and the fourth most frequent cause of cancer death. Environmental and dietary factors such as alcohol abuse, cigarette smoking, and genetic predisposition seem to constitute the main aetiologies. READ MORE

  3. 13. Methods for selection and optimisation of radiotherapy and early therapy evaluation in breast cancer

    Author : Tomas Jansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; Breast cancer; human; radiotherapy; multi-leaf collimator; breast-conservingsurgery; local recurrence; p53; positron emission tomography; chemotherapy evaluation; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; Oncology; onkologi;

    Abstract : Adjuvant systemic therapy for breast cancer, the most common malignancy in females, increases survival and this has recently also been demonstrated for postoperative radiotherapy. The aims of this study were to develop an optimised radiotherapeutic technique for postoperative treatment, to analyse the association between p53 status in node-negative patients and radiotherapy, to investigate the incidence of in-breast relapses after conservative surgery and radiotherapy and to determine if positron emissiontomography could be useful for early evaluation of polychemotherapy. 4. 14. Localisation of Protein Kinase C in Apoptosis and Neurite Outgrowth

    Author : Anna Schultz; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; onkologi; cancer; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Medicin människa och djur ; Cytology; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; Prostate Cancer; Neuroblastoma; Ceramide; Golgi Apparatus; Neurite outgrowth; Apoptosis; Protein Kinase C; C1 domain;

    Abstract : Protein kinase C (PKC) is a family of serine/threonine kinases, which are subgrouped into classical (a, bI, bII, g), novel (d, e, h, q) and atypical (z, i/l) isoforms. One major aim of this thesis work was to investigate if altered levels of PKC isoforms influence the apoptotic responses of malignant cell-lines. READ MORE

  5. 15. Utility of novel drug targets for treatment of metastatic cancer

    Author : Tianyan Wang; Jenny Persson; Thomas Grundström; Maréne Landström; Margareta Wilhelm; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Metastatic cancer; castration-resistant prostate cancer; pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma; target therapy; PIP5K1α; KRAS; molecularly imprinted polymers; Oncology; onkologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; Medical Cell Biology; medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Metastasis is the leading cause of cancer death because of a lack of early diagnosis tools and efficient treatment drugs. The lipid kinase phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate 5 kinase (PIP5K1α) has been shown to play a vital role in the PI3K/AKT and KRAS signaling pathways. READ MORE
