  1. 1. The Effects of SSRI Treatment on Human Placenta and Embryo

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Helena Kaihola; Uppsala universitet.; [2015]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antenatal depression; embryo; embryo development; fluoxetine; gene expression; NGF; placenta; protein expression; Raf-1; ROCK; signaling pathways; SSRI; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science; Obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

    Abstract : During pregnancy, 4 - 7% of women suffer from major depressive disorder. When antidepressive treatment is needed, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are the most commonly used. Although severe complications from SSRI treatment are rare, association with a number of adverse pregnancy and fetal outcomes has been found. READ MORE

  2. 2. Studies on in vitro fertilised human preembryos. Morphological and chromosomal aspects

    University dissertation from Göteborg

    Author : Thorir Hardarson; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2002]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; IVF; oocyte; embryo; blastocyst; human; FISH; aneuploidy;

    Abstract : The success rate of in vitro fertilisation (IVF) has gradually increased due to basic research in preembryonic biology and the introduction of new methods, both technical and medical. However, further research is needed to establish which preembryos are developmentally most competent in order to be able to maintain the pregnancy rate while only a single preembryo is being transferred. 3. 3. The Histidine-rich Glycoprotein in Reproduction

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Karin E Lindgren; Uppsala universitet.; [2016]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Angiogenesis; embryo culture medium; embryogenesis; embryonic secretome; endometrium; histidine-rich glycoprotein; human embryo development; human embryo implantation; human endometrial endothelial cells; in vitro fertilisation; infertility; male infertility; proximity extension assay; recurrent miscarriage; single nucleotide polymorphism; sperm quality; time-lapse technique; vascular endothelial growth factor;

    Abstract : Infertility affects 15% of reproductive-aged couples. The milieu surrounding the growing embryo is of outmost importance, and should be optimised during in vitro fertilisation (IVF). Many biological processes, such as angiogenesis, coagulation, and immune processes need to be well regulated for a pregnancy to occur and progress normally. READ MORE

    Abstract : Recent research demonstrated that besides a role in sex determination and male fertility, the Y chromosome is involved in additional functions including prostate cancer, sex-specific effects on the brain and behaviour, graft-versus-host disease, nociception, aggression and autoimmune diseases. The results presented in this thesis include an analysis of sex-biased genes encoded on the X and Y chromosomes of rodents. READ MORE

  5. 5. Human endometrial receptivity and embryo-endometrium interactions

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Clinical Science, Intervention and Technology

    Author : Signe Altmäe; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2011]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Infertility is an increasing medical and social problem affecting more than 10% of couples worldwide. Many underlying causes of human infertility have been overcome by assisted reproductive techniques; nevertheless, the implantation process remains one of the rate-limiting step as regards the success of the treatment.
