  1. 21. Novel Analysis Toolkit for Capillaroscopic Images: Development and Clinical Evaluation

    Author : Abdolamir Karbalaie; Björn-Erik Erlandsson; Olof Lindahl; KTH; []
    Keywords : Nailfold videocapillaroscopy; Image enhancement; Inter and intra-observer reliability; Tillämpad medicinsk teknik; Applied Medical Technology;

    Abstract : Nailfold capillaroscopy (NC) is an invasive imaging technique that is used to assess the blood capillary network in the nailfold area. NC is routinely used for patients with microcirculation problems, such as systemic sclerosis and other connective tissue diseases. NC is repeatable and appears to be simple and harmless. READ MORE

  2. 22. Exploring molecular interactions between polypeptide conjugates and protein targets : Manipulating affinity by chemical modifications

    Author : Aleksandra Balliu; Lars Baltzer; Oliver Seitz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polypeptide conjugates; protein targets; molecular recognition; affinity enhancement; conjugation;

    Abstract : In this thesis molecular interactions between polypeptide conjugates and protein targets were investigated. Polypeptides were derivatized with small organic molecules, peptides and oligonucleotides. New strategies were developed with the aim to increase affinities for proteins of biological interest. 3. 23. Visual Flow Display for Pilot Spatial Orientation

    Author : Lars Eriksson; Claes von Hofsten; David Lee; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Optic flow; visual flow; peripheral vision; spatial orientation; spatial disorientation; postural control; somatogravic illusion; human centrifuge; flight displays; head-up display; head-mounted display; Psychology; Psykologi; Psychology; psykologi; Psykologi;

    Abstract : Pilot spatial disorientation (SD) is a significant cause of incidents and fatal accidents in aviation. The pilot is susceptible to SD especially in low visibility when the visual system is deprived of information from outside the cockpit. READ MORE

  4. 24. Virus mediated induction of antibody independent cytotoxicity (VDCC) and enhancement of antibody dependent cytotoxicity (ADCC) in human lymphocytes in vitro

    Author : Abdul-Razzak Alsheikhly; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Addition in vitro of small amounts of paramyxoviruses (Mumps or Sendai) to lymphocytes from healthy human donors induces a strong and non-selective cytotoxicity against a variety of target cells (VDCC, virus dependent cellular cytotoxicity). VDCC-like reactions are believed to play a role in vivo in the defense against virus infection and/or the causation of the tissue lesions associated with virus disease. READ MORE

  5. 25. Vibration exposure of the glabrous skin of the human hand

    Author : Ronnie Lundström; Ludwik Liszka; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Vibration; hand; skin; mechanical impedance; mechanoreceptors; tactile perception; high-frequency;

    Abstract : An occupational exposure to hand-arm vibration can cause a complex of neurological, vascular and musculo-skeletal disturbances, known as the 'vibration syndrome'. However, the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms are not at all clear. READ MORE
