  1. 16. Antioxidative Properties of Herring (Clupea harengus) Press Juice in Food, In Vitro and In Vivo Model Systems

    Author : Thippeswamy Sannaveerappa; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; antioxidants; monocytes; washed cod mince; Clupea harengus; LDL oxidation; press juice; oxidation; ORAC; hemoglobin; alpha-tocopherol; herring; in vitro digestion.;

    Abstract : Some species like herring (Clupea harengus) are currently under-utilized due to their small size, dark colour and susceptibility to lipid oxidation. Our hypothesis has been that the high susceptibility of herring to oxidation makes it well equipped with natural antioxidants, both fat and water soluble ones. READ MORE

  2. 17. TNFalpha expression in monocytes/macrophages

    Author : Karolina Andersson; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomedicinska vetenskaper allmänt ; General biomedical sciences; Protein kinase; Macrophage; TNF;

    Abstract : The recognition of microbes or microbial products by leukocytes is a key event in innate immunity. Binding of microbial products to cell surface receptors on phagocytes induce a response that includes the production of inflammatory mediators. One such mediator is the cytokine tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF). READ MORE

  3. 18. Human papillomavirus in sinonasal inverted papilloma, recurrent respiratory papilloma and non-malignant tonsils

    Author : Anna M. Holm; Katarina Olofsson; Karin Nylander; Göran Laurell; Stina Syrjänen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Human papillomavirus; recurrent respiratory papillomatosis; sinonasal inverted papilloma; non-malignant tonsillar disease; Epstein-Barr virus; immune system; p16; Hyaluronan; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; oto-rhino-laryngologi;

    Abstract : Background: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is known to cause recurrent respiratory papilloma (RRP) and certain types of oropharyngeal cancer. HPV has also been associated with sinonasal inverted papilloma (SIP). READ MORE

  4. 19. Monocytes and dendritic cells : roles during human influenza and hantavirus infections

    Author : Sindhu Vangeti; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Viruses infect a vast majority of the other species on the planet and rarely leave the host undamaged. Most human viruses need to infect an individual to replicate and disseminate, and must contend with the full force of the human immune system. READ MORE

  5. 20. Staphylococcal induced inflammatory response in human monocytes: Analysis of factors involved

    Author : Eva Mattsson; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microbiology; interleukin-6; interleukin-beta; TNF-alfa; teichoic acid; Staphylococcus epidermidis; peptidoglycan; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : Purified bacterial cell wall components peptidoglycan and teichoic acid were isolated from staphylococcal species S. aureus and/or S. epidermidis and tested for their ability to induce cytokine release from plastic-adherent human monocytes. READ MORE
