  1. 21. Cycles of voles, predators, and alternative prey in boreal Sweden

    Author : Birger Hörnfeldt; S. Erlinge; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 3-4 year cycles; Clethrionomys glareolus; Clethrionomys rufocanus; Microtus agrestis; snap-trapping; rate of change; population regulation; delayed density-dependence; time-lag mechanism; seasonality; predation; food; predator avoidance; foraging behaviour; Aegolius funereus; nest boxes; numerical response; nomadism; Vulpes vulpes; Sarcoptes scabiei vulpes; Lepus timidus; Francisella tularensis; Tetraonidae; hunting statistics; zooekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Abstract : Bank voles, grey-sided voles, and field voles had synchronous 3-4 year density cycles with variable amplitudes which averaged about 200-fold in each species. Cycles of vole predators (red fox and Tengmalm's owl), and their (foxes') alternative prey (mountain hare and forest grouse) lagged behind the vole cycles. READ MORE

  2. 22. Onboard condition monitoring of vehicle-track dynamic interaction using machine learning : Enabling the railway industry’s digital transformation

    Author : Rohan Kulkarni; Mats Berg; Ulf Carlsson; Alireza Qazizadeh; Sebastian Stichel; Jordi Viñolas; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Active preventive maintenance; intelligent fault diagnosis; anomaly detection; vehicle fleet; track irregularities; vehicle hunting; wheel-rail interface.; Farkostteknik; Vehicle and Maritime Engineering;

    Abstract : The railway sector’s reliability, availability, maintainability, and safety (RAMS) can significantly improve by adopting condition based maintenance (CBM). In the CBM regime, maintenance decisions are driven by condition monitoring (CM) of the asset. READ MORE

  3. 23. Hunting for development. People, land and wildlife in southern Zimbabwe

    Author : Per Zachrisson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Anthropology; Zimbabwe; Gwanda; land; wildlife; livelihood; CAMPFIRE; development; globalisation;

    Abstract : Local communities in Africa, particularly southern Africa with its racially divided land pattern, have seen few economic benefits, apart from subsistence ones, from the region's wildlife during the twentieth century. Commercial, tourist and wildlife interests in the West have part in this development. READ MORE

  4. 24. On the conditions for developing hunting and fishing tourism in Sweden

    Author : Anders Kagervall; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In many rural areas industrial development have reduced the number of available jobs in traditional industries such as agriculture and forestry. Areas that historically have been dependent on extraction of resources, experience a reduced need for labor. In some areas the result is high unemployment and depopulation. READ MORE

  5. 25. Hunting the Charged Higgs Boson with Lepton Signatures in the ATLAS Experiment

    Author : Alexander Madsen; Arnaud Ferrari; Johann Collot; Ellert Mattias; Albert de Roeck; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; charged Higgs boson; ATLAS; LHC; 2HDM; MSSM; particle physics; Fysik med inriktning mot elementarpartikelfysik; Physics with specialization in Elementary Particle Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis presents searches for a charged Higgs boson (H±) in proton-proton collisions with center-of-mass energies of 7 TeV and 8 TeV, using data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Multiple search channels are used with the common characteristic of at least one charged lepton (electron or muon) that effectively reduces the multi-jet background and is used for efficient triggering.
