  1. 1. Microstructural Decay in High-Strength Bearing Steels under Rolling Contact Fatigue

    Author : Tania Loaiza; Peter Hedström; Mårten Olsson; Steve Ooi; Prasath Babu; Harry Bhadeshia; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Microstructural decay; microscopy; rolling contact fatigue; Hybrid 60 steel; Bearing steel; 52100; dislocations; ferrite microbands; Mikrostrukturell nedbrytning; mikroskopi; rullande kontaktfatigue; Hybrid 60-stål; dislokationer; Materials Science and Engineering; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis aims to enhance our understanding of material decay in high-strength steels used for bearing applications. The primary objective is to investigate the microstructural changes in two high-strength steels: 52100 steels, a popular bearing steel, and Hybrid 60, a relatively new bearing steel designed for long fatigue life and use at elevated temperatures. 2. 2. Timber-concrete hybrid structural systems : Examples, long and short-term dynamic monitoring, and numerical analysis

    Author : Carl Larsson; Michael Dorn; Åsa Bolmsvik; Thomas K. Bader; Henrik Danielsson; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Timber-Concrete Hybrid Structures; Timber Design; Structural Dynamics; Structural Health Monitoring; Byggteknik; Civil engineering;

    Abstract : Timber-concrete hybrid buildings are an innovative solution to increase the amount of timber materials in modern buildings. Due to its lower impact on the environment than materials like steel and concrete, the demand for timber products is rising as the construction industry aims to decrease its environmental footprint. 3. 3. Joining of Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastics for Automotive Applications

    Author : Gordon Kelly; KTH; []
    Keywords : Composite; laminate; bearing strength; joining; load introduction; hybrid joint; finite element analysis; mechanical testing;

    Abstract : The introduction of carbon-fibre reinforced plastics in loadbearing automotive structures provides a great potential toreduce vehicle weight and fuel consumption. To enable themanufacture and assembly of composite structural parts,reliable and cost-effective joining technologies must bedeveloped. READ MORE

  4. 4. Engineering Ceramics for Tribological Systems. Manufacture, Properties and Testing

    Author : Lars Kahlman; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; thermal wear; ceramic composite; face seal; engineering ceramic; erosion; hybrid bearing; thermal spalling; lubrication; tribology; abrasive waterjet; abrasive wear;

    Abstract : A broad range of commercial and experimental grades of ceramics and ceramic composites was tested in various model tests and simplified component tests. The tests were done to establish important microstructural features, friction and wear mechanisms. READ MORE

  5. 5. Static and Fatigue Failure of Bolted Joints in Hybrid Composite-Aluminium Aircraft Structures

    Author : Zlatan Kapidzic; Hans Ansell; Kjell Simonsson; Larsgunnar Nilsson; Michael Wisnom; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hybrid structures; Composites; Bearing failure; Bolted joints;

    Abstract : The use of fibre composites in the design of load carrying aircraft structures has been increasing over the last few decades. At the same time, aluminium alloys are still present in many structural parts, which has led to an increase of the number of hybrid composite-aluminium structures. READ MORE
