  1. 1. A Methodology for the Design of Cost Effective Hybrid Vehicles

    Author : Jonas Hellgren; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : fuzzy logic; system engineering; model car; optimal design; evolutionary algorithms; hybrid electric vehicle; alternative powertrain; simulation; modeling; genetic algorithms; fuel cell vehicle; hybrid vehicle;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with system design of cost effective hybrid and fuel cell vehicles. Today (2004) the major disadvantages of these vehicles are increased complexity and component costs. However, the decrease in cost of electrical components and the environmental concern make these vehicles more and more competitive. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Four-Quadrant Transducer System : for Hybrid Electric Vehicles

    Author : Erik Nordlund; Chandur Sadarangani; Hans Kahlen; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrical engineering; Electrical Machines; Hybrid Vehicles; Elektroteknik; Electrical engineering; Elektroteknik;

    Abstract : In this thesis a hybrid electrical powertrain called the Four Quadrant Transducer (4QT) has been evaluated through different driving simulations, which later resulted in the manufacture of a prototype. The simulation of a 12 metric ton distribution truck showed that the 4QT system can reduce the fuel consumption by approximately 30 % during the FTP75 drive cycle. READ MORE

  3. 3. Car-To-Car Side Impacts: Development and Validation of Mathematical Models and their Usability for Protective System Design

    Author : Bengt Pipkorn; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : dummy; injury criteria; padding; mathematical simulations; barrier; side impact; car; occupant; airbag;

    Abstract : The objective of the present work was to develop and use mathematical models to establish principles for protective systems for occupants in car-to-car side impacts. The efforts in this work have concentrated on the protection of the thorax and abdomen since these body parts are most frequently injured in side impacts. READ MORE

  4. 4. Car movement patterns and the PHEV

    Author : Lars Henrik Björnsson; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; PHEV; Sweden; PHEV viability; PHEV potential; car movement pattern; GPS logging; BEV; electrification; brake energy regeneration; battery size;

    Abstract : Roughly 30% of Sweden’s total greenhouse gas emissions originate from transport and a majority of them from cars. The plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) avoids the range limitation of the fully electric vehicle while still allowing for a major share of the fuel to be replaced by electricity from the grid and can thereby reduce greenhouse gas emissions, local pollutants and energy security concerns. 5. 5. Control of Hybrid Electric Vehicles with Diesel Engines

    Author : Karin Jonasson; Industriell elektroteknik och automation; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; reglerteknik; robotteknik; Automatiska system; simulation; hybrid vehicle; diesel engines; Automation; control engineering; robotics; Environmental technology; pollution control; Miljöteknik; kontroll av utsläpp;

    Abstract : This thesis is an approach to improve electric hybrid vehicles with respect to fuel consumption and to fulfil the future intended NOX emission regulations. It is based upon the conclusions made in the licentiate thesis Analysing Hybrid Drive System Topologies (Jonasson, 2002). READ MORE
