1. Evolution of asexuality in insects : Polyploidy, hybridization and geographical parthenogenesis
Abstract : Asexual reproduction and polyploidy are relatively rare in animals with chromosomal sex determination and always represent a derived condition. To accomplish asexual reproduction several changes in gene expression are required in the mechanism of oogenesis. READ MORE

2. Hybridization and Evolution in the Genus Pinus
Abstract : Gene flow and hybridization are pervasive in nature, and can lead to different evolutionary outcomes. They can either accelerate divergence and promote speciation or reverse differentiation. The process of divergence and speciation are strongly influenced by both neutral and selective forces. 3. Biosensor technology applied to hybridization analysis and mutation detection
Abstract : This thesis demonstrates the application of biosensor technology for molecular biology investigations, utilizing a surface plasmon resonance based optical device for mass sensitive detection of biomolecular interactions at a chipsurface. Oligonucleotide model systems were designed for analysis of the action of DNA manipulating enzymes. READ MORE

4. Genetic variation, polyploidy and hybridization in Scandinavian Anthericum ramosum and A. liliago (Anthericaceae)
Abstract : In this thesis, I investigate the differences in breeding system, levels of genetic variation and hierarchical structure of genetic diversity between Anthericum ramosum and A. liliago. The two species differ in ploidy level and flowering time, but have similar habitat preferences, reproductive biology and geographic distributions in Scandinavia. READ MORE

5. Patterns of geographic variation in Silene section Elisanthe (Caryophyllaceae): hybridization and migrational history
Abstract : Large-scale patterns of genetic variation in chloroplast (cp) and nuclear DNA in the widespread European herb species Silene latifolia and S. dioica were investigated using cpPCR-RFLPs, non-coding cpDNA sequences, AFLPs and sequences of the internal transcribed spacers (ITS) of nuclear ribosomal DNA (rDNA).
